I hate when they put you on hold...with emergency nember dialing they should NEVER, ver put you on hold... And they usually don't if you call from a cell phone...call them from a home phone, and you are on hold...

Fortunately I have NEVER had to call 911 to find out BUT I agree, if you have an emergency number to put someone on hold seems counter productive

HOLY CRAP!! I just heard the actual 911 call and it is very disturbing..

They answer and ask her if she can be put on hold and she is screaming "NO, it's on fire"...

Man, hearing that kinda bummed me out

Wow that is just so sad! I didn't want to listen to the call! But based on what you said. I don't understand how someone can say the are on fire and be placed on hold. :crasy: Thanks for the disclaimer! :thumb:
I was put on hold by 911, from my cell, while trying to reporting a drunk driver. Myself and another driver lined up side by side on they highway to make sure no other drivers passed us and got near they guy. The other driver gave me an authoritative point to line up with him. We were doing 80 MPH trying to keep up with this guy. I was on hold for what seemed like several minutes before the dispatcher came back to the phone. She informs me they guy next to me is an off duty officer and do my best to safely hang with him. The driver lost it and hit a concrete wall and flipped his car. The dude was fine. He crawled out of his car and reached back in to get his bottle. The off duty officer knocked the bottled out of his hand. Man..... was he ticked. It was :crasy:

You guys should see if you can take a tour of one of your local 911 centers. In most cases you will see that the operators are forced to work with what they have which is often too little. In *most* cases (not all) the people that are to blame are those that don't allow these centers to be properly staffed. Another reason is people calling 911 for things that aren't *emergencies!*

I don’t doubt they are understaffed.. I think root cause is not at the operator level but goes much deeper.

The value (or lack thereof) that is placed on some important jobs has always perplexed me...
