wine and cheese is great, dont get me wrong. I love sunday afternoons as I always have wine and cheese at the folks place... but wine and cheecse can be very complicated, if you get the wrong cheese tou can ruin both the wine and cheese, nither tatses good and you are turned off both. Wine and food is difficult as well but its alittle mor forgiving. I would recomend trying that reisling by itsled though, go open it now. Its nice and sweet (like you said you wanted), well balanced, and will treat you well.... go try it carlos... Cuuuummmmoooonnn
good news folks... we have carlos hooked on wine... hes a white wine drinker ... keep the snickers yto yourself (just kidding of course).....but i have a feeling its going to be a sliprey slope for carlos.. he already wants a case
Yup, Mike picke up two bottles for me to try...one being red wine (Mission Hill 2006) I didn't like it, too biter for me...the other one was a white wine (Louis Guntrum 2005??) now this is more like it...smooth taste, a wicked after taste...um...went through the bottle...the wife and I that is...so good though...wish I had another bottle...mmmm...white wine is good :woo: :woo: I could get a case of this wine :wicked:
lol..oh...man head spinning can hardly type...:woo: :woo: good wine though, the white one that is..me likey :druling: me want more actually...but too lasy to drive..actually too disy to drive..I'm a cheap drunk :shakehead: :shakehead:
well tonight i finished my wset level 1... I learned about wine and wine service, i was very happy and now have absic knowledge of the juice... i would def suggest anyone ionterested in wine take this course... its alor of fun
well this is an old thread but i figure tonight is a good night to revive it. I had a dinner tonight (celebrating two of my brothers garuatining, one from sait the other from high school) We had a few great bottles of wine but one stood out. The st francis cab sov.... it was a gerat oaky bottle of wine, well balanced and great value. Def worth picking up a case Also i took y WSET level one, finnaly got my make back and recived a 96%...so im happy. This deos mean i have to crack a bottle or two to celebrate so any good bottles latley?
I think its time to revive and old thread, I have had a few great bottle of wine latley. Right now im enjoying a cloudy bay 07 soviegnon blanc.... I have had a few of the SB from cloudy bay and never had a bad one. If you are lookin for a nice crisp white this is def. a good choice. It has a citrus green apple nose, very plesent. It is clean and clear, a nie golden hay color. Again the green apples come through with a slight lemon tastse. Its a great wine, at $30-35CDN (so probley half that in the states) its a great value. Def worth picking up a bottle or a case
This is quite interesting. I was a wholesale wine salesman for about a dozen years. We sold all types from what you find at the corner stop & go to the finest available on the planet. I put the wine list together to compliment the menu for restaurants, had it printed, even taught the wait staff how to sell & serve. We are a member of a wine club that sends two "preferred" offerings each month. Some are mediocre, some are excellent. I favor the Aussie Wines myself....and Zinfandel which is hard to come by where we live.
I went over to my folks place today and found a wonderfull surprise.... the wine they had ordered had come in..... a case of 04 mission hill oculus (this is an amazig wine, well worth the money) a case of 05 mission hill oculus 2 cases of lfng stock portfolio a case of lfng stock blind trust (this winery has a great story about a stock brocker who retired and opened a winery) so all this wine tempted me and i ended up opening an 05 red rooster riesling in a waterford robert mondovi sovignon blanc glass the wine is nice and sweet (as rieslings are) has a great citurs/green aple taste. very smooth and vell balance, perhaps to much green apple but still wonderfull. Def a good wine.. ohh and i would also recomend checking out the mondovi glasses from waterford, they are some nice glass, not to thin and brakable but not super thick like at a cheap italian resturant. I am on a mission to get a few of each
Here in SC we use Dixie Cups! Perfect for Boones Farm or Arbor Mist. On a serious note I will have to look for the Red Rooster Reisling. I like Reislings. How much does it run I you don't mind me asking?
dixie cups and boons sounds like a great night...and a bad morning. red rooster riesling goes for about 20 i think. but then again booze up here is more expensive then down there..... It is a canadian wine so you may have some trouble finding it.... let me know if you can get your hands on it
i will give all of you wine drinkers a tip.. SPANISH RED RAMIREZ de GANUZA. also you don't need to spend a lot.. i have had 20-40 usd spanish reds blow away 2-300usd bottles of french bordeux and i am talking about amazing more than 2 people. french bordeux's i love but i am partial to spanish reds be it rioja or ribera del duelo. the full flavor is awesome
Good suggestions here. I will have to see if I can get my hands on any of these. My favorite is a local winery near my parents. Chateau Marsett(spelling?) They have one called Blushing Dog. A little sweet but not too sweet. I need to get me a case b/c its been so long I can't describe it good. I alway try to keep a bottle of wine below $20. What are some good wines that anyone has had at this price? Maybe up to $25. Not into reds yet but I am trying.
Went to wine store to day to see if any recommended on here were there. None except for the Cloudy Bay and it was a little out of my price range. I did pick up 4 different wines to try that were in the $10-15 range. Will report back when I open them. All were white wine.
so? what did you get? and the cloudy bay is not a daily drinking wine... it runs about 35 a bottle here, but is a great crisp white for a special summer day. ohh and im not responsible for the 0 in the bank account..... the biggest thing i learned in loving wine is that its expensive, and there is never enough money...... on a side note, i picked up a bottle of mumm rose for tonight, i love rose sparking wine.... its fantastic, not as sweet as a white but not dry....
