Yeah, unless you're working in ASP.net stuff, or Java, a lot of the dev tools are rubbish, or unavailable altogether. Ever tried that ActiveState Perl interpreter? Jeez. I hated that thing. Anyway, would Eclipse and any of its endless variety of plugins help? I'm not familiar with Ruby on Rails at all, but there's an Eclipse plugin for just about everything else. Before you whack your entire Win7 install in favor of Ubuntu, have you looked at VMWare Server? I've got it running a SLES10 VM and it's pretty solid.
Psh, I don't use silly ASP (yet) or Java (yet), LoL. Nope, haven't tried the ActiveState Perl interpreter. I still have those languages to learn. /sigh I haven't used the Eclipse IDE, been mostly using NetBeans. Never thought of doing away with 7 as I have VMWare Workstation. Currently I have Ubuntu 9.04 and XP on it. I tried running another copy of 7 on VM and boy that was a bad idea, LoL. Not enough system resources for that sucker.
