    The tune is a preloaded program that changes factory settings to produce more power.

    In most cases it just bumps boost, and then your MAP or MAF sensors adjust fuel based on the new airflow/manifold pressure values. Timing is taken care of by the knock sensor anyways. In some cases of the better tunes, it will change your base fuel map to run a richer mixture to keep your AFR's 12:1 or sometimes lower. This reduces the chances of detonation.

    This is basically how it works, some tunes edit other functions such as the drive by wire sensitivity of your throttle.

    Meth kits aren't as popular with german automobiles as they are in the japanese automotive market. When getting an APR tune (most popular amongst VW/Audi) in my experience of owning a mk6 vw gti myself, the ecu flash will modify the rev hang (eliminate it I believe), up the pounds of boost and consistently maintain it along the powerband,leading to an increase in hp and torque obviously. Fuel mapping is changed to accommodate the increase in boost pressure, and ignition timing is altered as well if I'm not mistaken. You can buy 3 preset modes for maps (options to choose from: 87, 89, 91, and 100 octane, valet mode, stock). Not bad for about 800$ give or take depending where you get the flash from and what optons you want on the ecu.

    Thanks I've seen quite a few BMW's with meth hmm 12.1 or lower seems pretty rich. The meth would allow for much leaner mixtures. Anyway I'm modifying a car I don't even own yet lol. I have bolted on all the parts to my car and have had it dyno tuned after each round of mods. The ECU is wide open so tuning is very easy. I run about 27psi< thats about all the stock turbo will do it falls flat up top. The meth is triggered and flows according to injector duty cycle

    I have it narrowed down
    S4--- my favorite exterior styling and interior finish
    Evo X---- easlily modified for high HP (not likely I will pull the trigger on this one)
    AMG CLA--- the looks just appeal to me

    Sure all the above have a handful of cons but none I couldn't live with. I was talking about trading my IX to my wife she forbids it lol I don't know why she says my car gives her a headache??, so I will garage it and go after one of these cars

    It is pretty rich, but the tuners do it to prevent a lean condition with bad gas or boost spikes. Basically when you get a "canned" tune, it isn't optimized because they don't want the risk or headache of a customer blowing their motor up because the tune was too close to 14.7:1 and other factors created a lean condition.

    Consider the 12:1 as them giving their product a much better factor of safety.

    In my car closed loop 14s are target. It uses a feedback loop to achieve best afr for mpg and emissions secondary to performance. When i go into boost it becomes open loop afr target is 11.3-10.7.emissions and mpg go out the window

    Which is typical, but ultra safe on the AFR side when in boost. Which you typically are I'm assuming :)

    LoL believe it or not car is babied. Sure i go through the gears time to time but its driven pretty docile. Its fun to pull a few car lengths on cars twice the cost. I have a safe tune on the car for sure, also have a failsafe that will dump all the boost pressure if meth stops spraying or if afr goes to lean. Really cant beat it $ for $ performance, only have about 2500 dollars in bolt ons, downpipe,test pipe, exhaust,boost controller,aqaumist,intake. Base dyno 240 awhp after tune 370awhp. If i get a slightly bigger turbo im way north of 400awhp. Pretty common to see 500awhp daily drivers. Once you go past 400 it starts to get pricey if you want to be safe.
    Back to topic i cant stop checking out the CLA, I need to sit in it / drive it first . I like how the hood tapers off on a downward slope. It should have pretty good road vision.
