The design and idea behind the first-ever BMW M2 Coupé stem from the historical roots of BMW M GmbH. The vehicle combines top sporting prowess and classic rear-wheel drive with the precision and agility of a modern M automobile. Characteristic front and rear aprons optimise air flow and aerodynamics. The sportily attuned suspension and a powerful M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine ensure breathtaking performance.

The design of the BMW M2 Coupé is the embodiment of pure power and dynamics. The sporty coupé line, the muscular shape and the cockpit with authentic racetrack details underscore the vehicle’s athletic presence.

A compact vehicle that’s perfect for rapid sprints and racy cornering – the BMW M2 Coupé demonstrates immense power, agility and precision right down to the last detail. Large air inlets in the front apron supply the high-performance M powerplant with the necessary cooling air. The bonnet is the starting point of the athletic coupé line that exudes unadulterated dynamics and looks particularly muscular when viewed from the side. The Air Curtain and M rear spoiler optimise the outstanding aerodynamics. The classic M kidney grille with double slats and M gill elements add an even sportier touch to the BMW M2 Coupé.

The precise Lightweight rear axle and extra-wide tyres ensure a broad track, thus enhancing the vehicle’s stance. A diffuser insert in the rear apron with two integrated twin tailpipe finishers rounds of the dynamic appearance.

The M TwinPower Turbo engine of the BMW M2 Coupé.
It’s not the absolute size that counts. It’s the actual strength. The compact M inline 6-cylinder engine in the BMW M2 Coupé offers impressive proof. With its 272 kW (370 hp), this powerplant catapults the 1,570 kg vehicle effortlessly to a top speed of up to 250 km/h, which is a weight-to-power ratio of 5.5 kg/kW. The top overall performance and a cooling system that has been tested on the racetrack guarantee a breathtaking driving experience.

M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine.

The M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine features superior power delivery, silky smooth running and an exceptional performance. Not only that, but the brawny 3.0-litre engine emits a captivatingly sporty sound as it goes about its work. Thanks to an oil system with a return pump, the engine is always fed precisely the right amount of oil, even during maximum longitudinal and latitudinal acceleration on a racetrack.

This engine combines the Valvetronic fully variable valve control including Double-VANOS, High-Precision Injection and a TwinScroll turbocharger to optimally fill the cylinders. The result: a peak performance of 272 kW (370 hp) and a maximum torque of 465 Nm, plus 35 Nm with the aid of the Overboost function, between 1,350 and 4,500 rpm. This means that the Turbo petrol engine accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a breathtaking 4.5 s, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. Thanks to various intelligent technological innovations, its fuel consumption drops to a combined rate of just 8.5 litres per 100 km at a CO2 emissions level of only 199 g/km.

Impressively efficient, packed with power and delivering a direct response even at low engine speeds – this all-conquering drive train is destined to delight every driver of a BMW.

    CO2 emissions in g/km 199 [185]
    Combined in l/100 km 8.5 [7.9]
    Cylinders/valves 6/4
    Capacity in ccm 2,979
Max. output in kW (hp) at 1/min 272 (370)/6,500
    Compression ratio : 1 10.2
The figures for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions depend on the wheel and tyre sizes selected.

Further information on the official fuel consumption and on the official specific CO2 emissions of new automobiles can be found in the guidelines on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of new automobiles which are available free of charge at all retail outlets and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Str. 1, 73760 Ostfildern, Germany.

The maximum speed is electronically limited BMW M2 Coupé.

All engines meet the EU6 emissions standard. Fuel consumption is determined in accordance with the ECE driving cycle (93/116/EC) made up of approximately one third urban traffic and two thirds extra-urban driving (based on the distance covered). CO2 emissions are measured in addition to fuel consumption as such. Fuel consumption levels are calculated on the basis of vehicles with standard equipment. Special equipment (e.g. wider tyres) can have a significant impact on fuel consumption and driving performance levels.

The M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic is an innovative 7-speed double-clutch transmission specially designed for the BMW M high-rev engine. The system boasts a traction-optimised automatic gear selection, Launch Control, Low Speed Assistance, as well as an Automatic Start/Stop function. It makes it possible to change gears extremely quickly without any loss in power. Two sub-transmissions, each with its own clutch, continuously relay the power of the engine to the rear wheels.

The system can be controlled automatically or manually using the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, or the gear lever. Just as with Launch Control, which allows maximum acceleration from a standing start, an extremely dynamic driving experience is the result: shifting gears at high speed is possible without using the clutch and without any interruption in the power delivery. Regardless of whether the driver selects the automatic ("D") or manual ("S") mode, Drivelogic always offers three shifting options using the Driving Experience Control: extremely sporty, comfortable and efficient.

    M 6-speed transmission
With a light and compact design, the M 6-speed manual transmission decreases the total weight of the car, resulting in an array of benefits in the field of dynamics, agility, acceleration and fuel consumption. The lightened gear box also balances the axle load distribution to nearly 50:50, giving the car more neutral and stabilised driving characteristics in every situation.

On the inside of the transmission, innovative carbon fibre friction lining makes shifting gears more comfortable. In addition, the new transmission is even more efficient, as the dry sump lubrication system enables targeted oil distribution. This technology, adopted from racing sports, also contributes to greater efficiency and lower fuel consumption. BMW M engineers placed a high value on further reducing engine noise.

And, beyond all that, the M 6-speed manual transmission is fully integrated into the other cutting-edge control systems: Together with motor electronics, its sensors provide signals to the engine speed control system when shifting gears.

With the BMW M laptimer app, driving data from the racetrack can be accurately recorded, bend by bend, and then analysed with the aim of improving driving performance. The app collects precise data from the BMW sensors and shows selected values in the Control Display. The system is operated via the iDrive Controller.

While it is recording, the BMW M laptimer app shows the GPS position, speed, forward acceleration, lateral acceleration (G-force), lap times and acceleration up to a certain speed (e.g. from 0 to 100 km/h). Depending on the vehicle equipment and model year, factors measured may also include the accelerator position, steering angle, deceleration, rpms and gear, as well as fuel consumption.

The recorded data can be posted as a snapshot to social networks, or saved and sent via email.
When it comes to active and passive safety, there’s no room for compromise. With its wealth of technologies, the BMW M2 Coupé is equipped to deal with any and every challenge. M driver orientation.

The M car's ergonomic concept features an exclusive cockpit with the driver orientation characteristic of the M line. All controls are consistently designed with a focus on the driver. As in racing, intuitive and absolute control over the vehicle are our priorities, as is enabling the shortest possible reaction times.

That cockpit-feel, perfect seat ergonomics, knee pad, direct access to all controls relevant to driving dynamics, the BMW Head-Up Display with M specific features, M gear selector and M specific instrument cluster are the central components of the athletic-ergonomic driver orientation which is the hallmark of the M line. The M leather steering wheel features gearshift paddles adopted from racing sports, leading to quick and comfortable gear changes.

The controls for comfort, communication and entertainment functions such as air conditioning, navigation and radio are located to the right of the driver so that the front passenger can also conveniently access them. That way the driver can focus on what is really important – ultimate driving pleasure.
    Passive safety.

Each BMW vehicle comes with a package of intelligent safety features aimed at minimising the risk of accidents – and for that great feeling of knowing one is always in safe hands. Highly robust, large-volume supporting structures and the intelligent use of specialized high-strength steel ensure maximum rigidity in the safety passenger cell, while keeping the overall weight to a minimum.

The impact of a collision is channelled away from the passenger cell to other parts of the car body, such as the undercarriage, side frames, front bulkhead and roof, where it is absorbed by deformation zones at the front and rear. In the case of a side-on collision, occupants are protected by strengthened structures in the B-pillars and side skirts, highly rigid side impact protection in the doors, as well as a stable seat crossmember.

Various pedestrian-protection features can be found at the front of the car. A shock absorber is built into the front area between the bumper and bumper cover, which reduces the chance of injuries in the event that the bumper strikes a pedestrian's legs. The bonnet is equipped with deformation elements, which absorb the force of impact, forming a crumple zone.
