    OK

dont want to use too much glycerin as it clouds the surface and you can't see if your burning the paint or got the marks out and will be a bitch to get off after you've finished

Thanks for sharing.. I did a Seat Leon(VAG paint) last Saturday to Sunday and it had a sticky clear too. I settled on the good old #83, as the Megs products are a bit oily, and even though I got fine results somewhere it was leaving me a few of holograms behind. It was also throwing polish residue, dusted like hell and it was a pain to get off the clear coat :( I finished it with M205 and a Megs V1 finishing pad, it gummed the pad a bit but wasn't nearly as bad as with the #83. But it can really be troubleling. A job that seems easy can really turn into a nightmare..

    Kind regards,

    Ebbe

Or you could just get out your trusty PC and use whatever you want. The Porsche I recently did had VERY sticky paint, even giving me grief on the lowest speed on my rotary. Switched to my PC with a green 3M compounding pad and Power Finish and had my way with the P-car. I ran the PC on speed 5 the whole time with no issues.

Ken..thanks for that tip. I do quite a few Infinitis, and although I have yet to do a sticky clear, I'm sure there's one or two in my future.

Do you think the Porsche's clear is smiliar to the Infiniti's self healing clear?

Just revisiting this thread for the first time ina long while
I am still using the parrafin oil but only about 1ml per pad and adding another 1ml after a whole door is polished or I'm into the second pad and put some on there as well

Gloss it's EVP apparently can put a dent in sticky paint, I am wondering if sticky paint has something to do with the isocyanate free hardeners used in waterborne paints or those paints having a lower thermal resistance than solvent based paints.
sticky paint is a heat problem. 1250 or above is the common rpm with a rotary that activates the sticky paint.

Once it does activate, the experience I had before parrafin oil came to the rescue made me almost swear that I was buffing melted rubber. the machines having an epileptic fit and the polishes are turning to little balls or string in no time.

What I have just purchased in order to make sure that it's not a stack of silicone and wax all over the paint that is causing the sticky paint, is Debeer Silicone Remover
It looks like prepsol but is much stronger and removes more layers of that crap

Don't mean to bump an old thread, but has anybody really found a cure for this sticky clear coat other than using a DA? Ken has the Gloss-it EVP Pad Prime so maybe that might be the cure.

Ive had this on Honda's and once on a BMW. Every time it started with menzerna and ended up going to a courser pad and a lighter grade compound (in most cases poorboys) which tended to stay moist for longer then did a pass with a finishing pad to get the holograms out. Definitely a PITA and triples the time required on the car.

I'm glad this thread was bumped. I just got the 7424 and I could always give that a try if I run into trouble. I never heard of that before. So, Thank you very much...:thumb:

The only solution is to make sure you have a variety of products (I'm referring to polish/compounds) and lots of time to test pad and polish combos...well that's what I do

Having said that Clark of Polishedbliss has shown that using Gloss it's products works well, I've never used the Gloss it like so I honestly don't know if it works or not just repeating what I've read. Hope it helps.

I had some luck with a bit of sticky paint this past weekend. Granted the paint wasn't as sticky as some of the cars I have come across, I did find a few panels to give me hell with the Menz (SIP & FA). I switched to Meguiars new M205 and it worked like butter, maybe worth a try for you ;)

hmm..,. Before 5 or 6 months I had one Mitsubishi L200 .. I Start with 3m 50417 and Meguiar's SoftBuff 2.0 Foam Cutting Pad but it was a messy sticky situation there... one pad almost be destroyed and no results at all....hehehe

After all i decided to use meguiars 105 ultra cutting compound with the 3m wool pad and works better on that streaky paint... :thumb:

    Sticky clear coat

Sometimes this is due not allow sufficient cure / drying time to the colour coat before applying the urethane clear coat or it could be product reside (silicone, wax or sealant, etc) interfering with the polishing process.

The effects of sticky paint is that it has a high frictional resistant, which causes a heat build up that dries the polish lubricant oils, causing further heat build-up

    Correction – methods vary (dependent upon paint mfg.);
    (a) Cleaning the paint surface to remove debris (silicone, wax or sealant, etc)
    (b) Using less downward pressure and using a less aggressive (softer) foam pad
    (c) Add lubrication to avoid excessive heat build-up Gloss-It EVP Pad Prime or Mineral Oil will keep the foam pad lubricated and stop heat build up
    (d) Use a random orbital polisher (low speed)

I've only come across this problem once but used (c) EVP and it solved the problem

Removing silicone certainly does help. Anything from De Beer, Glasurit, Chem Spec or Standox/Spies Hecker works well
