Anyone have info on the size of the detailing industry? I'm curious about any other market info regarding the industry.
I've been looking for legit (standard and poors type) information on the industry for the last couple days.... I don't think they're much out there. There's some info on car washes, but I think real detailing is a difficult industry to gather concrete information on. If you find anything, please share.
if you are looking for total dollars....... its very large, from OTC to niche products. Just look at how much Meguiars, 3M, and mothers makes and that gives you an indication.
True. There are tons of manufacturers out there. It really blows my mind. Yet, I still find auto detailing to be a niche market despite the widespread ownership of cars. I mean, driving down the road looking at most cars, I wonder if any have ever seen a coat of wax in their lifetime. I get the feeling a large chemical manufacturer like 3M considers the car detailing line to be decently small compared to their other brands. As for the industry outside of product I'm curious too. The tunnel car washes would be interesting to research (what their average daily sales is, break even point, etc). And then I'm curious about mobile detailing and professional detailers.
You can find info for the car wash tunnels pretty quickly with a simple google search. Its the mobile and professional info thats hard to find.
