Stokdgs, what would you get first? The durrmaid looks promising. It actually has a better rated suction lift then the $1,000 mytee extractor for a fraction of the cost.

I just did a interior detail for a client today using zep citrus 3:1 and a Hoover HWE. All I did was first vacuum it, then spray zep, brush it, and use only the HWE hand attachment.
Several spots needed to be redone more than once. Seats, carpet, and doors were done along with the rest of the interior detail.
It was dry in about 10mins as today was around 60deg F.
Here's a 50/50 after one pass on the left rear floor. On the middle hump I used my steamer as well to remove some gummyness stuck there

The Mytee Lite 8070 has 100cfm, 107" water lift, 120psi, and a 1000watt heater = 210 degrees max. It is bigger by a bunch compared to the Durrmaid. It also holds more water I believe. The water tank is on top and comes off I believe and the recovery tank is underneath it I believe. I just went to the Mytee dot com site and its $899+ shipping and comes with 1 tool. You will want to buy a crevice tool as well. Not sure if the tool they give you has the water jet enclosed, but that is always better to have, since the water jet sprays out wide like almost an 180 degree fan spray. It runs on 120vac house current but not sure if it tops out at 15 amps or needs up to 20 amps . Will look for the book and advise. I believe you can find this unit cheaper at resellers.

At the end of the day, you want the best suction you can get, the highest PSI and CFM, the hottest water, and the biggest tanks you can get, or whatever you want to fit your needs vs budget vs business plan.

The Durrmaid has it all over the Mytee8070 in terms of size/footprint. I dont know all the spec's of it off the top of my head. I looked at it years ago, but decided I was going to offer the cleanest possible interior work to my future Clients, and saved up for the Mytee HP60 Spyder, which is bigger yet than the Mytee Lite 8070 and has more of everything in the spec's side too.

So, to answer your question - yes I did get an Extractor first, loved it, used the heck out of it, still use it in every detail today and sometimes inside the house ( but it will never be as effective as those monster truck mounted units), and I have never looked back.

I got my VX5000 Steamer about a year later and am glad to have that help me totally sanitize interiors especially all the dash vents, cupholders, blowing with steam all that little stuff you cant get your vacuum tools close to, blowing out all under seats so perhaps you wont have to remove them, totally cleaning tons of dirt/gunk out of seatbelts, door jambs, all the trunk jambs that are full of mold up here, etc...

Its a handful of cash you are putting out, or work if you are trading for it, but for my needs up here, I will always be glad I have both tools. My chemicals usage has gone down so much, from using these tools too.

Good luck guys, with your research on this !

Thanks for the informative post Stokdgs. I'm probably going to go with the steamer as my Bissel is currently working well enough, and steaming the door jambs to perfection is one major thing that is very hard to accomplish without. Now that I think about it, it'll be great for engine work and trunk jambs too. Thanks for all the input guys.
