very true, but PDMS is known as a gloss polymer, its typically used in the 250cps/350cps variety for automotive products. There is no high quality pdms, or low quality, it is what it is. It's effect is measured in it's concentration. Now for other polymers, such as ones that enable beading (although pdms has some role in this as well), protection, buffing etc. That is a different story.
yes there are over 1000 formulas for PDMS and different qualities....it has to do with the molecules it exchanges during the crosslinking...it can be used in a grease and be liquid..or a putty like silly putty..yest thats PDMS..and also as food additives as a non caking agent The polymer is manufactured in multiple viscosities, ranging from a thin pourable liquid (when n is very low), to a thick rubbery semi-solid (when n is very high). PDMS molecules have quite flexible polymer backbones (or chains) due to their siloxane linkages, which are analogous to the ether linkages used to impart rubberiness to polyurethanes. Such flexible chains become loosely entangled when molecular weight is high, which results in PDMS having an unusually high level of viscoelasticity. Many people are indirectly familiar with PDMS because it is an important (4%) component in Silly Putty, to which PDMS imparts its characteristic viscoelastic properties Polysiloxanes are polymers whose backbones consist of alternating atoms of silicon and oxygen. Although organic substituents are attached to the silicon atoms, lack of carbon in the backbones of the chains makes polysiloxanes into unusual “inorganic” polymers. They can exist as elastomers, greases, resins, liquids, and adhesives. Their great inertness, resistance… so its all in the make up of the product...to what it does....and the quality of the polymer AL
I think where we are disagreeing is, yes there are multiple PDMS's. No, not many except 1 variant is suitable for detailing products, and that is 250cps/350cps.
LOL, I can see why you are so greedy..I got to say it has some awesome reflections and depth almost unreal look to it..Looks like it had a new paint job....I can't wait to try the sample that Big Al sent me... Thanks for sharing....:applause2:
sooooooo... how about when this is all good and settled we all spit a 5 gallon drum? I think Im ready to move on from JS LOL
I am working on trying to get more ..I called today but he was out of town and I was told by the secretary he would get back to me..... I want more also...lol...to horde ... Al
OK I sprayed the car down with water today. I used a gentle spray falling on it like rain would. I sprayed everything except the trunk area as it's a pain to dry thanks to the spoiler. Well it was hard to get beading because the water just kept running off it, even falling like rain! The paint is just so slick. Well I finally got some pics so I broke out the leaf blower to dry the car. 3/4 of it was covered in beaded water and I blew it dry with the leaf blower in 1 min and 55 seconds!!! When the air hit it the beads just flew off the car! Well here are the pics:
Goodness. Cannot wait to get my hands on some of this stuff. I wonder if it's better than Poorboys EX-P. Jokes, of course, JOKES!!!
That looks good..you can see the snail trails behind the bigger beads as the roll down...it should be interesting to see what happens in a rain..should be like DG ..it self dries as you drive...I meant to ask you..did you do any windows with it.... Al
