Room That I Designed - My family's new house!

--I told the painter/electrician my 'vision' and asked if they could do it. none of them have ever done it, but it was worth it for them to try. I was nervous that we might forget to mention something during hte process, which would lead us to more $$ to get it rite.

My room isnt a dedicated theater . Its just my own bedroom, that i will be setting up a PJ + Screen, surround sound etc.

So, before i post pictures, this is what i said, " I want to put crown molding about 2.5 or 3" from the ceiling, i also want to put a light in there, i dont know if i should use rope light or special lighting, but we can try..I want my windows framed, my basebaords to be high and my chair rail to be at a good level, I want neatral colors...you guys are the pro's pick n chose what you guys think is good, get back to me and if its all good..you guys can start"

After detailing cars, I know what its liek when people try to 'tell me to do my job" so i jus make small suggestions and let the PRO's do the rest. if there are any concerns then i'll bring it to their attention, but i just let them use their skill to their fullest, they were great, seemless, excellent!

The room was plain white, had crappy carpet, so we changed the whole upstaris to berber 4star, all the basic stuff you would find in a typical mass produced home. I added 6 recessed lights, an outlet for a ceiling fan, the moldings/trim, the paint.

Its hard to see the night time/dark pix, but its not as white, its got that halogen/amber look, its really sweet with the contrast of the room.

My recessed lgihts are on a dimmer, the rope light is on a dimmer, and there is a switch for the fan, as well as a switch for the outlets

for those intersted in the dimensions of the crown molding, i think it is a typical crown molding that is 3.5" thick, it is set 3.5" lowered from the ceiling, and the rope light is the stuff from Home Depot. I needed 56 feet, but had to buy (2) 24 feet and (1) 18foot cord cuz thats all they had, so ull notice there are certain spots that seem brighter than others, which blends in quite fine

My screen will be mounted above the closet, there is also an outlet being built on the ceiling for my PJ. I am very excited

Looks good, I did the drop ceiling in my powder room, dropped it about 12 inches, it got alot of compliments which I am sure the room above will. I like the lighting on top of the crown molding, its something different.

haha, i really wanted to put tile, even in my old(current house) i wanted tile, but its fine, i guess the fam got a good deal on it, its also a hightraffic carpet, but its got a real nice bounce to it...great quality

wait til ya guys see the bathroom...or even when i put my screen up!

were gettin the house cleaned rite now, gonna start moving crap in on Wednesday. Im still debating if i really want to epoxy the garage floor, a buddy of mine said we can try it out, but i really dont want to waste some $200 to have my floors all messed up..any experience of your DIYers

here is my entertainment set up its measured at 84" or 92" diag??!?! i know its big haha. im thinkin about getting a new screen, a high quality one. I really want a new PJ (projector) as well, 1080p so i can get the full experience with my blu-ray movies. but blu-ray movies already look nuts!

isnt it one of those OHHH AND AHHH things that really seems comlicated, but when done (if knowing the procedure) is quite simple!

its great accent lighting, esp for moodlighting

i was inspired when i saw it on avsforum...alot of people dont really tell 'how' they did it, so i also went on that forum n gave em a full description. jus tryna help those who are interested.

 

I would go for something else then epoxy in the garage! What about tiles there?

Neil-it is a simple thing that makes a big difference in appearance, once again great job. I also have put a flat screen in bathroom so when you sit in the jacuzzi, you can watch tv or.....:whistle:

I was kidna clueless on style and coloring, so i went to this city where they had brand new construction, yanno the Million dollar houses. went to about 10 different model homes and started taking pics, measurements, notes and went home n jus wnated to get the loook without spending a million bucks..

I think recessed lighting is great, as well as crown molding. the guys at AVSFORUM say
" a room without crown molding is like a painting without a frame" it jus adds that extra something to the room/house

 

Yes, adding crown molding to a room makes a big difference in appearance. Once again great job on the room.

My wife loves going to show homes, I enjoy it too but man seeing all those 0's makes me wana cry :shakehead: :shakehead:

 

i cant get enough of how big some of these 'bathrooms' are..theres a pic with my dad looking down at a fish tank. there was a model home where the platform was raised to the size of a stair-step and had wooden planks with an aquarium built underneath....now that, is a room for the ages..

for 1 million bucks, down ehre in so-cal ...these houses were a STEAL, i know hard to believe. but ya, those 0's are never ending sometimes!

Great ideas on your new house, you are sure to love it with it being that nice and classy. The million dollar homes are sick! I couldnt imagine living in a house like that, great stuff...maybe later in my life

 

Sooner or later I'm going to have to pay for my wifes and my dream house but to be honest I think a house is well worth it, not only is it a worthy investment but it's your home, your palace, where you raise your family and hopefully spend quality time with family...well for me that's what a house is so all those 0's may seem endless but at the end the trade off is quite rewarding if you ask me :thumb:
