I know people are charging for machine polishing classes etc. but has anyone thought about charging for consulting for product recommendations alone? I've brought in 4-5 different products to my work and I decided to draw the line there because I put a lot of research into this stuff and feel like I shouldn't be letting it go out the door for free.

Problem with product consulting would be that its all based on opinions. Not all products will work the same for everyone. There are a myriad of variables like temperature, humidity, type of paint, user procedure, tools being used and so on. I just don't think it would work. Not to mention that everyones ipinion of a product differs and everyone is not looking for the same things from a product.

For example, people LOVE souveran, I on the other hand hate it. I can't think of an lsp that I like less other than maybe turtle wax.

Most everyone is a product consultant!. Of course, everyone has their own biased even when they say they are unbiased. I think the ones that are the least biased are the ones that would help you achieve your goals often with what you already own without telling you that you need to buy into a complete different system. For example, if you have Meg;s QID, no one should tell you that you need 1z Cockpit Premium to really clean your interior.

In my opinion, product consulting is a universal form of networking so you should provide it for free. If someone knows that you did them a favor they are likely to return it and usually for 2-3x of what you put in!

I never charge for helping others pick products. I give recommendations, and often you will see them later when they go to use them. Then you can charge for time.

I think that you need to try Alt of products so you can see different products. Different clears need different products. The forums are hit and miss and you never know who is at the other end. If you spend enough time on them you get to see who the real deal retailers are.

Not sure about the product consulting idea but if you would like to try is PM me and I will consult for you for at a fair rate. LOL

here's what i do. when people ask me for advice on how to detail/take care of their cars, i tell them EVERYTHING they'll need, and how much all those supplies will cost them. when they hear the total, it doesnt take much time for them to decide to just pay me to detail their car since they realize i already have the necessary equipment and some...

Lol, well that's not what I mean. I've gotten my boss a lot of items that greatly improve his business and I didn't even get so much as a thank you, so next time I'm considering charging him for information.
