polish choices for the semi pro's

hello all ,
as i said in another post i have been out of the loop for a few years and have done a few cars lately and well looks like i will be doing many more and want to pick up some new polishes.
in the past i was using 3m compound (the black bottle one) and mequiers dacp, and meguieres #2 swirl remover and fast cut cleaner. i was able to solve 90% of issues with no swirls with these products and a pc.

well almost all my polishes are empty or have turned to water plus i want to use the newer products. i also will be picking up a makita or de walt here soon. so im looking for a few suggestions of polishes that will handle most issues on a variety of cars (this is why i asked for pro's and semi pro's) also pad choices if you could

so far i have decided on meg 105/205 menz intensive and 83 an 85

i plan to pick up the new pc and use the 7.5 inch ccs high gloss pads with the new pc and the makita. and getting a 4 inch backing plate and a few 4 inch ccs bads for hard to reach areas with the pc

i picked the ccs pads because i prefer pads that cup the backing plate.

so what do you guys think of this plan ...any suggestions

 

Looks pretty solid so far... I would just hate to only use the PC... rotary ftw!

 

I think the 7.5" pads will be a bit much for the PC. A lot of us use a rotary and don't like to go much over 5.5-6" if we can help it

Ah, just re-read. Saw you're getting a Makita as well. Still, that large of a pad is more than I like to use.

 

i have the makita and i hate using 6.5" pads i couldnt imagine using anything bigger. i suggest getting 4" and 5.5" pads

 

I actually just gave up on 6.5 inch pads. In my opinion 5.5 inch are awesome.

 

6.5 are too bulky for my taste and need to be heavily primed. i have 2 5.5 finishing pads and i love their size. 6.5 imo is only good for hoods, roofs, and some trunks. For example on my car, my only use for 6.5 is on the center of the hood. my roof is vinyled and the top of the trunk is small

 

i have the original 5.5 orange power pads now and the 6.5 yellow pads that are angled on the sides and have a pocket...i have no problem with sticking with the 5.5 or 6.5 range but what good pads have that pocket for the backing pads

 

The only ones that I know to have the "pocket" are the Meguiars Soft Buff line. They are good pads. The 3M pads also have it, I think they are way too pricey though.

 

you polish selection so far is great. I would add Menzerna Powerfinish to that list as well.

4" and 5.5" pads is all you will need. anything larger than that is unnecessary, and would not work well with a PC. on a rotary it would, but just unnecessary. just my :2cents:
