Planning on using Collinite 845 ... suggestions?

The stuff is easy as hell to apply... just my experience...

 

when the car is done it will look like you put another coat o f clear on it.

 

Guys ... I posted pics on the Show & Shine section. The 845 rocks ...

Really easy to apply and remove. A couple observations though ...

1. My 845 started foaming on my pad after getting half of the car done. I did apply some QD on the pad before applying it, so I don't know if that caused the foaming.

2. This thing rocks but the bottle sucks ... plain and simple.

3. I don't use nitrile gloves when applying wax ... The skin on my hands was beading water for half a day after applying this wax. Detergent won't strip 845.

The cap can be a pain in the ass, and the thread of the cap can wear out quickly if you tighten the cap too tight, which will cause it to open on it's own, if you keep it in a storage bin. I kept the cap from an empty Mother's Cleaner Wax bottle and used it to replace the cap on the Collinite bottle. Fits perfect and works like a charm because now it has an easy pour fold out nozzle. The original cap design that came with the Collinite, has to be taken off, and makes it easy to over pour the wax onto pads, if you're not careful. With the new cap I can squeeze the bottle and only get the amount that I want. On that note, you will love the Collinite 845. I swear it looks like my Durango is covered in diamonds when it rains and I can see them all roll off the hood as soon as I start driving. Rain doesn't even stick to the sides at all. Sometimes it even looks dry even when it poured cats and dogs. I use it religiously now. The shine is great too, and my Durango is black. I haven't tried many other special market waxes, but as for off the shelf products, I have not found a single wax that comes even close to the shine and durability of Collinite #845. I just gave the Durango two coats last weekend. Getting it ready for the Pennsylvania winter.

 

My wife's car has a one coat of 845 and the beading is out of this world. I will give it another coat before the winter.

This is my preferred wax for "wash & wax" jobs for now. The people that have approached me for detailing services only want protection and not correction. I really like it topping it off with OCW. I have a few waxes that could serve as toppers (natty's blue/red, s100, pete's 53) but I haven't tried them out yet. I'm planning to report on the outcome of these mixes soon.

 

Is there any other Collinite that is more durable than 845 that would be good for the winter like one of there paste wax's. Also do many people use the pre-wax cleaner or just use some other one or none? I am starting to think of my winter setup, and I have 1000P and thinking it may be time for a change.

 

I believe the 476 is the most durable for the winter, but a PITA to apply and remove (according to most people).

I'm planning on doing two coats of 845 and maintaining it during the winter with ONR and OCW.
That should do the trick.

There's a guy on ebay that sells the 915, 845, and 476 bundle for 45 bucks. A great deal if you ask me ... i'm broke right now though.

I haven't checked my harbor freight store for this stuff.

 

Thanks, I called up my HF stores and none of them carry it so that kind of stinks. I have read that both do pretty well in the winter so I may just go with the easier to apply.

 

My Winter prep plan includes CG EXTREME ALL-IN-1 POLISH + SHINE & SEALANT followed by 845.

Does anyone see any problems with that combo? Should I be concerned that the sealant that the CG product leaves behind might cause problems with the 845 bonding/curing properly?

Dont really see anything wrong in that, I would say that I am going to assume that the sealant in CG product would not last as long at 845 thus you will be compromising the durability 845 film layer to that of almost the durability of the sealant in the AIO. If you will be washing the car and topping off the wax with something you should be fine. If you will not be able to I would just use the 845 on top of clean paint.

 

OK, I see your point in avoiding layering the stronger sealant (845) over a weaker 'foundation' sealant (from the All-In-One).

So I'm re-thinking this now and wondering which swirl remover/polish I should use before applying the Collinite 845.
For reference: the car in question is a 3-month old black RAV4 with minor swirls/spider webbing and some residual water spotting, so only light correction is necessary.
I'll be using a PC 7424XP with a Lake Country white CCS pad.

Can I get some feedback/recommendations on which prep product to use?
The ones I've been thinking about are:

• Poorboy's SSR1
• Optimum Finish

Both are gentle correction polishes from what I've gathered, and both are locally available to me.

One other product I've been thinking about (although I'd have to order this one) is Chemical Guys SCRATCH & SWIRL REMOVER

Opinions and advice please.

 

I wish I would've took pictures of the Lexus GX 470 I just detailed (no polishing though )

I washed, clayed, then a layer of EZ Creme glaze, then 845. Looked awesome.

If you want to, put a coat of Lusso Oro on the top.

I also did that combo on a ford f250 (but I polished the f250). Here's a couple pics of the truck:

If you just want very little correction both are good polishes, I would go with Opt. But both polishes really not made to be used on a white pad but a finishing pad, (gray,blue,red). But, if you not looking to correct the paint right now just IPA wipedown after a wash and apply the 845.

I have no experience with the two polishes on a white pad, but have used them on a finishing pad.

I got the idea to use the white pad from AutoGeek's pad chart

Referencing Optimum's own site though I noticed that the finishing pad is recommended.

I do need some correction which is why I'm thinking of going with the white. Am I making a mistake?

 

I have an '07 diamond graphite G35 that I'm planning to winterize very soon (hopefully this weekend). I'm planning on claying followed by a 2-step combo of PO203S w/ LC white or green pad / PO85RD w/ LC black pad. Then I'll seal with FMJ, and top with 1-2 coats of 845. Thanks for the tips above on the 845 BTW. I'm also considering topping that with a coat of Dodo Juice Purple Haze since it looks pretty solid on the dark paint. Sound ok?

 

AG says to use white with Opt Polish not Opt finish polish. If you need some correction I would get Opt Polish II, or Menzerna Power Finish or 106FA. Power Finish has more cut than the other ones I have listed but finishes like a finish polish.

You can always try Finish with a whit pad and see if you get the correction you would like and then go from there.

 

Correction sounds good. The 3 LSPs may be over kill. If you want to use DoDo I would pick either FMJ or 845 but not both.

 

Im using optiseal n top up with 845, the result is awesome
