I just got this in my inbox, clearly a scam looking to "phish" for my info.. EVERY legit Paypal email I have EVER received adress' me by my user name and not just "Payl Pal Customer" - it's also obvious by the return adress that it's not from pay pal
Yea, whenever I get crap like that, I log into my account THROUGH paypal, not a link in an email. I must get one a week in my email. Just flag it as spam. I remember years ago though, when my son was first diagnosed with cancer, we had a fundraiser set up online, and donations were made through paypal. I actually had paypal call me, since there was so much money going into the account in so little time. I guess they though something was up. I was hesitant to talk to the guy, as I thought it was weird for them to call. I actually hung up, got the # to paypal, and called back. Seems it was really a call from them checking on the account. Just goes to show, now a days, it's hard to tell scammers from the real deal. They are getting good, and it's scary. But then you have those retarded Nigerian scammers. I actually enjoy getting those, as it makes me laugh pretty good.
Oh nice heads up Motor and yes I totally agree with you TexasTB it's getting very difficult to distinguish between lagit people and scammers. Actually, this week I found out that someone got a hold of my credit card information and used it to make some purchases. Nothing major, looked like they used my credit card to join a few porn sites purhcased a few toys and what not..it wasen't that much about $700 or so. I made a habit of checking my statements and phoning the credit card company and when they were telling me most recent transactions that's where I caught it. The odd thing is that it's one of the credit cards that I hardly ever use, I got another one that I use to make all my purhcases with and if anything I would have expected that one to get hacked but it was the one I hardly ever use...anywho I'm still scratching my head as to how they get my information but don't know and I kinda wish I knew...but it was no big deal, bank is sending me a new credit card and all charges have been removed. Funny thing is that banks make it sounds like it's no big deal, I was a bit ticked off and the person from the bank made it sound like as though it was nothing to worry about go figure huh.
Thanks for the heads up MotorCity.:thumb: Dang that sucks, I only use paypal to buy anything. When they ask for information I either call or sign in and they bring me to an "important" page if something is wrong. I don't even use my CC online. How they got your CC?:crasy:
actually those emails are a dime a dozen..it's called phishing with the hopes that you'll click on the links or offer up your info... PayPal/Ebay will never ask for your info why?....because they already have it...i know with ebay you can forward BS emails to spoof@ebay.com..i think you can the same with PayPal... also be careful because you can receive the same type of email resembling your bank.. anyways bro good posting
Wow my friend told me his dad got an e-mail like that, and he does NOT even have PayPal...very SNEAKY huh? lol
Yes I agree, I've now started using my paypal account more when doing online purhas. Mind you my bank made it sound like it was nothing and removed the charges and an investigation begins :shrug: I wish I knew more about how these things happen, I mean if you think about it, I'm assuming you would have to be a sharp cookie to be able to steal a persons CC number and information and what not...shame, if that tallend was put to good use the world would be a better place :shakehead: oh well to each there own though.
