Well, it's been about a month since I've had my D200. I think I'm about to say good bye to my borrowed 18-200mm VR lens. I've ordered a Tokina 12-24mm f/4, and it should be here by the end of the week. Here are some pictures along my learning journey! Some fish... Some landscape... San Diego Beach The harbor in San Diego Architecture... And some random things I've found interesting Went walking around and saw one of these bad boys too! Then the valet who was watching the car informed me of a clean S14 on the other side He was a liar. Other points of interest. SCARY! Couple of notes... Aquarium shooting... incredibly hard. Landscape photography is fun, but the lighting part is hard to get down. I've been too lazy to stay for the sunset when the best light I've seen is available. Cars photoshoot is coming soon! Don't you guys worry! :mounty: Thanks for viewing! C&C are all welcome. Please don't be afraid to be harsh. I know I am still a novice.
those shots are great! I really like the one with the bus out of focus at the back..very cool. About the car in the handicapped space..did you scratch it? You said he's a liar..just wondering.
No no, I would never damage someone else's property. I called him a liar because he said the car was clean, but clearly, it isn't. That's what I was trying to say with the pictures, haha.
Very cool pictures, love the colours :thumb: Well done :applause: look forward to more pictures from you opcorn:
Ben, Nice pictures! BTW, How do like the 18-200mm VR, i heard it is all around lens. I may get a D90, maybe, i will buy this len as well!
thanks! the lion fish was a model! we should have a side photography meet when we set up this norcal detailing meeting thanks. i will be shooting very often now with a new lens It's a pretty good all around lens. It was nice to find out the kinds of photos I like to take best. I wouldn't say I'd buy it though. I don't like the 3.5-5.6 stops, and this thing is heavy. Out of the 100+ shots I took that day, those were the only ones I like. I didn't bracket much either!
Ben, can I ask why you went with an f4? I'm sure you can find one with a lot better aperture rating than that.. f4 is fairly hight for such a wide angle lense...
Nice pics. How much post processing do you do or rely on incamera tweaking? Colors look very saturated and contrasty - not a default setting for Nikon. I have a d70s and been playing with a D90.
for ranges down there, it was mostly about price. Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6 was about 400 Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 is ~600 Nikon 12-24mm f/4 is 850+ I can't remember the other ones, but the Tokina one is 315 used! The fish pictures had a few things done. I take everything in RAW, so afterwards, I adjust WB, brightness, contrast, etc. Afterwards, I adjusted the levels and the tone curve to make the contrast a bit higher. For the others, I mostly just used levels after adjusting white balance. Some had adjusted tone curves.
Ohh.. makes sense. I haven't really looked in to wide angle lenses. I really wanna 50mm f1.8.. but my heart isn't in photog right now..
maybe you'll feel better if I told you that the 50mm 1.4 is well over 450? haha I've seen many pictures taken by the 50mm 1.8 though. The range is definitely not that fun to use on a crop camera, but the pictures are SHARP. If I had to choose one lens to have for mainly detailing pictures and everything else, I'd take the 50mm 1.8 easily. All photoshop. I tried lightroom, and I think the beginner might like it. Photoshop basically had everything lightroom did though. It also had other stuff I edited with, so I'm only going to use lightroom for pictures that might need light editing from now on. I haven't tried Nikon's software though. It wouldn't install on my mac... thank you sir! That's one of my favorites too, but nobody else seems to like it as much.
