Emile, I'm sorry but I don't agre with your logic. A couple of guys with shovels would have got the wheel loader out without a problem. It's called using your head. I don't care if insurance covers the damages, what the two knuckleheads did would certainly get them fired at a private business. BTW, it was on NBC Nightly News and Brian Williams said a spokesman for the city said it was a common occurence where insurance takes care of the damages. Not acceptable.

"Legally, I don't think NYC sanitation or the tow truck have the right to just move parked cars around while they are plowing "

Technically they moved both parked cars doing what they did. The car in front looks like it got a decent amount of damage too. I'd much prefer they drag my car a ways in the snow than slide a tow truck down the side of it.

I also agree that the tax payers should care that their tax dollars are going for that, Even if insurance does cover the damage now that it is shown that it was done on purpose who pays the insurance bill? Tax payers. Ever known an insurance bill not to go up after a stupid claim like that?

From what I had read they were told to get it free it asap. The sanitation dept was in overload and under a lot of pressure to do something fast. It is not an excuse but it can explain it.

Damages for both cars should come out of those two stupid asses' pockets...not taxpayers money...
see how they like that...and if they don't like it, they can jump off the bridge...

Would you have been as understanding had that been your vehicle they damaged?

    Emile Welcome to Detailing

zim, they don't have the right to move the cars but once they hit the two cars then it is legally considered an accident or a "collision" and then a report gets filed. Until then, they don't have the right to just move cars around on their own.

bairdwc, you just said it yourself. It happens all the time in New York, just this time some guy had a video camera and uploaded it to YouTube. Why isn't anybody bringing up the fact that your car is not supposed to be in the street during snow storms to being with?

Bunky hit the nail on the head. Pressure to get the job done. NYC Sanitation can't be responsible for idiots who leave their cars in snow emergency streets during a major snowstorm when the law is very clear on this issue.

Piet, my car sleeps in a garage so this doesn't apply to me.

I do want to make it clear that I think what happened was very fugged up but the law has procedures for this kind of thing and that dictates what should and should not be done.
