while looking at the back of a wool pad i noticed it said use it for final polish it was a much more fine wool than a puffy knoty type but still i always thought woll was to get in pretty deep corrections not final polish:shead: have i been wrong or what
Never heard of using a wool pad for final polish, but surbuff said you can apply waxes with their pad.:yikes:
In the hands of a talented detailer, paint can be finished down with wool. Wool pads were around for years before foam was introduced.
^^ Yes. too many guys make excuses for not finishing rotary/wool down well and make more work for themselve.
Back in the 80's when I was a Painter in a couple of body shops that specialized in high end cars, we used different grades of wool/wool blend pads to cut and finish paintwork, and as was said earlier, you CAN Rotary finish paint down with pads like that, maybe use a little cornstarch to bring out a little more gloss, and it looks as good (with no swirls), as what is done today. Next time you are in an auto paint store, look at the pads on the wall hooks and you will see alot of Schlegel, and 3M I think. There is a factory out here that builds Ambulances and they buy wool blend pads and Meguiars 105 and 205 by the gallons, to Rotary finish out their newly painted vehicles. Good Boat Detailers of high end boats use nothing but wool/wool/blend pads and Rotaries to cut through all the grime off of gelcoat all the time, and until you have done a few airplanes, you will never know how much fun wool pads are to use !!!
