I've been polishing on my grandpa's 2007 black Corvette the last couple nights and I'm very frustrated! He washed it in Dawn and clayed it. He had a friend come and get out some water spots. These were very light water spots that could of easily been removed with another washing of the car. This guy put swirls in it and I cant seem to get them perfectly out! Maybe I am to picky with to high of expectations or maybe my method used was my reason for failure of perfection. He had a orange pad that I put on his PC and I used DG 652 then followed up with a yellow Meguiars polishing Pad with Zaino swirl remover. There are still some very fine swirl scratches when I look hard into the paint. My grandpa can't seem them but I can and its driving me nuts! I would like to have all the polishing pads to do this job right but I'm receiving those for Christmas. Maybe some Power Finish would do the job? Do you guys receive perfect results? Or is my COD getting the best of me lol
What Bob said. GM paint is pretty hard, and Corvette paint in particular is famous for being super hard.
You should be able to get it right with your pc, regardless of the paint type. If you have Power Finish, try a small section on the hood with that and the orange pad at speed 5. Check the paint. If its not swirl free, you'll need a more aggressive polish to use with the orange pad. Follow it up with PF on the yellow Megs pad. Make sure you are working the polish until it goes clear so it breaks down completely. Should take a couple minutes per 2x2 section.
No, 3M Ultrafine has barely any cut. Power Finish has a good amount of cut, but still finishes down well.
