My new (to me) winter beater

So I can't drive my normal vehicle in the winter anymore. I lowered it this spring, and stuck on 19" Fondmetal 9x wheels, with summer high performance tires. So I found a beater to drive through the winter months.

My normal vehicle is a Lincoln LS:

    And my winter vehicle...

Picked it up a couple days ago. It's... Spartan.... to say it best. no radio, the dash vents are missing (still have defrost/floor heat though), and the floor pan on the driver's side? I can see the ground underneath, through an area a little less than the surface area of a dollar bill. But, after some VCG's, and a new rear u-joint, and a couple misc. seals, she'll be road worthy. Found it on craigslist for $750.

Now I won't care if someone else slams into me in their nice ride this winter :D

nice LS ... is it a stick shift? I wanted to get an LS 5-speed when they came out.

Nice truck ... that's a workhorse. You just need the "git-r-done" sticker and you are good to go!

lol. I couldn't be too picky. I wanted to spend under 800 bucks, as that's just a little more than a set of snow tires for my stock 17" wheels.

I laughed when I went to see it, but at the same time, thought "that's EXACTLY what I'm looking for". As long as it runs good, and takes my LS off the road for the winter, I'm good.

My criteria were: mid 80's Chevy 350 4wd, standard trans if I could find it. This one is a 1985 Chev Scottsdale, 1/2 ton, 3 speed auto. With "custom" paintwork lol.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I wanted the V8 LS. There was never any manual trans option, and I have never been able to find a manual trans with a right bellhousing pattern to mate up to the engine.

lol at the git-r-done sticker. Maybe I should add a big american flag and an eagle too

I've already started taking a look at what it would take to start restoring the truck. Not sure if I want to though. I don't know if I want to turn it into something nice yet.

I'm also trying to figure out how to care for spray paint lol.

I think any APC full-strength can take care of that ... lol

Well at least you don't have to worry about holograms at all ... just the "small" rust particles on the sponge ... lol

I wouldn't pressure wash those rockers ... you might be asking for extra ventilation in the cabin ... lol

We are still buddies as long as you don't put your LS body on the truck frame .

lol. I may install a gun rack, and start drinking old milwaukee. Maybe buy a jean jacket and a trucker hat.

And buy a can of Skoal.

Having worked for a major tire retailer for a while, I can honestly say that you will not like those tires come heavy snow time. The lack of sipes in the tire to allow the different tread blocks to move and shift for the terrain will cause you to have a lack of traction in the winter months. Seeing that I would not want anything to happen to my fellow DB members I would suggest thinking about getting some new tires, possibly some BFG All Terrains.
