very nice work, especially on the paint touch ups. 300 ptg readings? :what: came out looking very nice. I love wagons.
XFS: I like it to.. Use it as a dissolve when doing wipedown as shown in the pictures, and also when wetsanding. One box lasts for a fair while to, and it far from expensive slanguage: Thanks Yes, did about 300 readings.. It's boring, but did not take much more than 10 minutes with an helper The reason I did so many was to get a good overall average before and after.. Have tried using a fixed point with a laser before, but lots of readings with an average on each panels is what I get the most "accurate" readings from.. Unfortunately I did not get time to take after readings, but will come back to that in the spring when the car i coming back for SV CFP and a new couple of layers of Wax.
Is that black a metallic black? I've been wanting to fill in some paint chip on my mercedes as well and was wondering how well the metallic blends. Also do you suggest I get the paint from a body shop or from the dealership itself?
Yes, this is black metallic. The "flakes" blends just fine(just shake well before use) and match on this was very close to 100%. I'm very happy with the painter who blends the paint for my projects I suggest you get it from a body shop, since they will be able to blend the base and clear together. If you buy this from Mercedes you will get separate bottles of paint and it will not be very pretty if you try to do layers of base and clear on such a small spot.
Is there anything I need to be concerned with having the base and clear mixed together? Also the gash I got is quite long and somewhat wide so I was wondering if you got any tips and advices before I tackle this project.
clean the area first with 3M GPAC or a silicon degreaser. Be prepared to apply several layers if necessary. If the gash has gone through to the steel you'll have to use a primer first since the laquer will not stick over time if you apply it directly to the steel surface. You could also take a look in this one, postet earlier.. Used a little different method here http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/f47/vw-passat-v6-4-motion-11934.html
Yes it has gone through to the steel, thats how deep it is. I paniced and quickly applied some jet black touch up paint from another car into that area, should I use something to remove the jet black touch up or just apply it over?
Yes, I've made it, just not the drawing of the car. Attached you have the newest version for Office 2007, also with some new features. It's in Norwegian, but can do a translate one of the coming days.
