Ok, this has been really bothering me at Autopia and I thought everyone here should have a look at this thread regarding Menzerna and the whole "filling issue" being addressed. Anyway, I really don't like the way Jeff Silver handles the issue and find him to be unprofessional and arrogant at times. I think it just irritates me that their products are great but the way that the whole "filliing issue" was handled was done very poorly. So what do you all think? I'm interested to hear everyone's take on the thread and the whole Menzerna thing.
He's under attack from a lot of angles, which he should address. But mate, there is some name calling on that board that I wouldn't take either. Let's face it: Menzerna was never made to be used by us shade-tree detailers. That market for him probably only makes up 5% of his total revenue for the year. In other words, is he really going to care?
Threads like that do not help anybody. I am sure a list of people who do NOT think it fills can also be created.
I am sure there are people out there who do not think/know if a product is filling or correcting. The way I see it is if you think the product is filling and do not want to use that product, don't use it.
For me it really isn't about the product at all that I'm disgusted with. It's the way Jeff Silver handles himself on the forums. I mean, apparently he cares enough to post his thoughts regarding his products. Don't get me wrong, I'll still purchase Menzerna because it's great stuff and I'm aware of how their products behave. I just dislike how it was handled from one professional to another.
I believe every single product fills to a degree. You just need to be aware of it. I never said Menzerna is a bad product, its my favorite. But it does have a learning curve like everything else. Many dont realize that.
wow, thanks for that link... I was just on the phone with Jeff few days ago and had no idea about that thread... So what was the solution when using 106FF? I got kind of confused at the end of Todd's reply (#67). So use black/blue LC pad with 106FF to finish off?
I think eshine was right when he said just griping here is not going to accomplish anything. It is not like he is going to repent and say he was wrong. Take it for what it is and use the product or not. The solution by some was to wipe and run another pass. Since I am new at this, I doubt I could spot it easily or good enough to care.
i learned long ago to only read those threads but not get actively involved - waste of energy in my opinion. as a consumer you have a right to purchase products from whom ever you choose. if you don't like a product, or how the company represents itself then stop buying the product - seems pretty simple to me. case in point, ever since the exxon valdez (sp ?) oil spill years ago I haven't purchased gas from an exxon service center - and more recently mobil. come damn close to running out of gas b/c a couple of times, but heck it was the only power i had to voice my opinion.
106FF is a finishing polish and should be used with a finishing pad, a pad with no cut. Before you go to 106, the paint should be free of defects. 106FF should be used to jewel the paint, amp up the gloss, not remove defects. Then it may be possible to jewel the paint even more using 85rd or 87mc.

Myself will no longer buy Menzerna nor recommend it to others. For longer than many new people to these forums and detailing in general I have used and recommend Menzerna. I just did a search on Autopia, as far back as it would go, and in early 2003 I posted about Menzerna (earlier than that I'm sure but that's as far back as it goes for some reason) and how well their products worked. Irene at Top Of The Line carries the Menzerna line because of my urging and many people on Rennlist use it also because of my recommendations, as do several of my clients. Some time ago I sought from others their opinions on my Optimum Forums if they had any experiences with Menzerna and filling. Several people had also experienced this same thing. I then went and posted also over at AutoGeek the same questions. Never did I ever state it as FACT but rather seeking opinions and input from others. Mr. Silver then comes on and states I have an "ageenda", as if I am seeking to bash Menzerna and spread false rumors. Notice that you can no longer find that thread on AutoGeek as they removed it. Mr. Silver should of done some research before stating that about me as he would certainly know I have no "agenda" in bad mouthing a product I had always used and recommended. No longer though as something is around the corner. Will I discourage others from continuing to use it? Nope. I think it's a fine product line but it's about the actions of others. Anthony
ive used 106ff with a lake countrywhite pad to remove very very minor hairline micro scraches. worked nicely and then went straight to wax afer...
i thought 106ff has even smaller particles than 85rd.. last night on my 335 i had some NASTY water spot build up from my car sitting outside at the dealer all weekend. i got the car back and it had a nasty scratch above the rear light and on the top of the trunk i had nasty huge water spots.. i mean after a wash one was over 2 inches long and 2 inches wide.. so i busted out the makita and some 106fa.. it took the scratch right out in less than 1 min with an orange pad.. then i went to the trubk after i finished the scratch with 106fa and a black lc pad. i got out the larger 5.5" pads started with an orange pad from lc and 85rd.. it took about 2 passes to get it out.. then i used a black finishing pad and some 106fa and it looked perfect.. after every pass i inspected with my new favorite toy..the 3m sun gun.. damn is this thing awesome.. i didn't notice any filling..i sprayed off with top inspection and worked in some JS109 with red lc pad and topped it with some concourso.. only problem i had was opening up a new swissvax black applicator and when i dug it around in the wax i got black lint all over it..thx god i did it on that and not the crystal rock i should have soon.
Menzerna does not fill in the traditional sense and I've never had any problems with filling, I usually work menz for up to four and a half minutes and have absolutely no problem Of course 106 has the ability to remove those very fine marks or even stronger ones but I make sure that all the marks are gone by that stage (the correction period) 106 and 85RD are the enhancement stages along with others If all the marks are gone and 106 fills well it doesn't matter, there's nothing to fill Menzerna has been my abrasive polish of choice since 2003 and shall remain along with Prima a close second
