Maybe we've been doing it wrong all along?

Well let me clarify, I believe Ken meant Power Lock, which can be left on a car overnight with little adverse effects if it is cool out.

As for power finish, it is an abrasive polish and that is it's only purpose. Leaving it on the paint for a longer period of time will not effect the final result, nor will it make it safer to remove. It is a diminishing abrasive polish, in which the abrasive particles are broken down by friction. Leaving it to just sit on the paint would probably make it harder and LESS safe to remove, since the lubricating oils could dry out and just leave you with hard, abrasive polish residue to remove. Now, I'm sure many of you perform IPA wipedowns, which remove any leftover oils from polishing, so this implies that we want the paint completely clean, which is true AFAIK. Since nothing is bonding, curing, or adhering to the paint, I see no point to leave the polish on.

I can't think of a reason why you would. Now I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there's absolutely no reason to leave it sit any longer than it has too. The only time I would allow a polish to sit is if I was working on a soft paint and letting some heat from polishing leave the panel so it wouldn't mar the paint when I wiped it off. Even then, that's only a 15-20 second wait at the most.
