I've noticed that people on DW and DB have been questioning the durability of Menz FMJ so I thought I would perform a little test on a clients car. Back on May 6 of this year I did a protection detail on this car. Washed with DP Carwash Shampoo Clayed with Automagic Blue bar Paintwork cleansed with Werkstat Acrylic prime Finished with Menz FMJx2 Since then the car has been washed with PB Super Slick'n Suds every 3-4 weeks and dried with MF Towels. Menz also has a maintainance spray - High Gloss Acrylic Shield and I thought I would include this in the test. The first three pics show the beading on the hood. The hood, along with the body , has been wiped down with HGAS after each wash. The roof was left untouched. The pics after that show the roof. The beading is still there although somewhat diminished. I am doing this car again in Sept and will take more pics. It will be approx 4.5 months at that point. The car does go out everyday but is garage kept at night. Any thoughts or comments welcomed.
I had used FMJ for a few years and I loved how slick it was but for me the durability left a lot to be desired. I think the test may have been more fair if it was just with FMJ and not a booster spray. I have stopped using mine and will give away what small amount I have to a good client who wants to do a little something on his own.
Thats why I showed the roof pics as well that had no HGAS applied so you could see the difference the spray made. I rewax my clients cars every 4 months so I only need it to last that long. In the real world, there aren't many products that will last much onger than 4 months anyway without applying 2 or 3 coats. What do you think?
How I was using it was to have it precede Collinite 476. It made the paint very slick and gave it awesome protection. I just think my new regimen of using 601/105/AW gives longer protection and looks amazing too. The FMJ is super easy to use, the collinite was the bigger pita. I certainly don't hate it by any means and it has served me well.
