I don't think it has melted your sidewall. The problem with the greasy dressings is that they attract dirt. You just have a lot of build up crap in the grooves and lettering. Try some Zep or other APC let it dwell and scrub the hell out of it. Should bring your tires back to new.

Griot's Garage also has new product for preparing rubber and removing old products safely called Griot's Garage Rubber Prep. I have used it and it does a very nice job cleaning the rubber of old product and leaving the rubber clean.

From the pics, that looks like a boat-load of build-up on those tires. Get some Amazing Roll-Off or Autoglym CWC to clean all that caked on dressing on those tires. White Pearl or 303 Aerospace are great dressings for tires without the build-up associated with petroleum based tire dressings.

    Bump for updates:

Finally got these wheels mounted back on my car yesterday. The sidewalls were killing me so I decided to clean them off with some AG CWC:

Didn't see this thread earlier but the same thing happened to me with megs endurance tire gel. It held through the rainy season, but the dressing ended up browning over time. The bright side was the tires were like mint underneath all the build up. I've switched to Z16 now, and haven't looked back. I'll bet those ridges were such a pita to clean...

Yep learned that lesson with those products years ago. It just gumbs up on the rubber.

Just adding my experience - I've been using Zaino Z16 tire gloss for over 2 years on my Michelin Primacy MXV4 and Michelin X-Ice Xi2 tires - no problems so far. The tire wetness is natural-looking and is not shiny or artificial-looking. No tire discoloration or damage so far.

When I see that kind of build up, I just use Westley Bleeche-White tire cleaner. I think the stuff is too strong for normal use but great for heavy duty cleaning.
