phil, it seems the consensus is that the meguiar's backing is is the best one to use for this system...will you be carrying these?

I was reading the product blurb on Phil's website and it says D151 contains silicone. I'm wondering if it actually removes marring and light defects or fills them in mostly. Thoughts guys?

i played with it, and did a IPA wipe down and it does do a bit of filling, but actually does minimize as well, that was with a uber green.

it is far from perfect for a "correction" but for those customers who don't care about it but do need some minor oxidizing or other issue fixed its perfect.

Tons of sealants and waxes contain silicones (read: water beading! :D) - its all about the quality and types that are included and for what purpose.

Shane, the D151 is a great AIO, it has a corrective package in it, that cuts a little more than M205, but included in PRC is that sealant which will do a bit of concealing. Its perfect for the "tunnel of death" car wash customers that still want polishing as the concealing agents and the sealant really give a bright look, as opposed to something sterile.

The cool thing is that D151 is that SMAT technology, so you can work on a section as long as you like and as always its pressure dependent so if you pair with an orange pad on hard paint and get down on it with some pressure - nice true correction is provided(the rest minimized) but you can get an idea as it does differ from paint to paint just by doing an IPA/M34 wipe.

Thanks for the info Mike. I am looking for a better option for my single stage polishing than OPT Poli-seal and have been considering D151. Really have wanted a bit more correction while still being able to finish down well. I have too many customers with hacked black cars only wanting to shell out for a SS polish despite my best upsell/education efforts. The OPT product doesn't get me to the point where I can even take a 50/50 pic to show to the customer some correction.

If you want some, I believe I have a half gallon of my own - if a gallon sounds like too much.

D151 sounds appropriate for what your customers are wanting. OPS doesn't have much of anything mechanical in it, so it doesn't surprise me. its a better chemical cleaner(which does nothing on weathered paint) than it is a corrective product, which is why we see OPS doing great work on cars that are older, but still not CRAZY correction. It sounds like the paint you are dealing with is either the non-weathered, non exposure ridden type or is harder physically which makes D151 even better because on the softest of the soft, you will have to finish it down carefully to avoid micromarring(as with all SMAT products).

But also, it would get you to the point where the agents that do some lightening(concealing sounds bad lol) of the defects it can't remove, by the time the cars return(because it sounds like they beat the crap out of them) the concealer package will be worn enough where you can actually see whats going on as you polish again. It chemically cleans pretty good as well the mechanical stuff helps it along..

..plus you can top it however you want, if you want.
