If I'm polishing, I'm claying, which means most of the left-over LSP will be stripped anyway. I do:

    - Wash with normal amount of car wash + some joy. Strips but keeps some lubrication using the car wash.
    - Clay
    - ISO wipedown
    - Polish

No need for an APC. You can use it, and I have, but its really not necessary. The joy + clay + ISO will remove everything except something like FL1000 or collinite that was applied yesterday. And the polish will take care of anything left.

why would you need to remove lsp before polishing? if the polish is strong enough to remove the clear coat, wouldn't it be strong enough to remove LSP.

I made this post for members at moddedmustangs and it has helped them better understand how to dilute products, I am sure it will help you guys out a bit:)

The theory is to get the paint stripped bare before polishing because if the surface is still a little slick your pads will be creating a hydro-plane effect...

I was thinking of using some dawn, optimum apc and some chemical guys citrus gloss in my foam gun. Would that work or is that a bad idea?

I haven't tried it...but why would you wanna mix so much ? Wouldn't dawn alone do the job or either one of the three cleaners you mentioned? I'm just a little confused why you would need that much.

I was thinking this exact same thing. That's why I made the thread.

Is this just a theory or do the abrasives in the polish really do have more effect when working on bare clearcoat that has no wax?

I wasn't sure why either. I think I will just use some dawn and apc like mentioned earlier.

to clear confusion, look up the definition of "dilution"...it means to make "weak"

the liquid used to make the "concentrate" weak (whether it be APC, wash soap, tire cleaner, etc.) is water...

so the larger number should always be water...otherwise you are not "diluting" (i.e. making weak) =D

Its best to remove any oils, waxes, etc. from the paint prior to polishing.

How does that apply here? We know what dilution is....

I got two cars I'm doing in a week for a full correction. If there is any wax left on the paint, I am gonna strip it all off to see if I notice any difference in the polish process as opposed to not stripping the LSP.

that would be a good experiment to run. if it turned out that the abrasive will take care of LSP and clear coat then it will save everyone time.

The only problem with that experiment is it wont tell you that much. Every single situation is different. Not completely removing everything on one car might be fine, but a disaster on another car. Too many variables.
