I have brushes similar to those I picked up at Harbor Freight. I have 3 actually, and bent one to a 90 degree angle to help clean the backside of wheel spokes

Hey thanks richy and I took some pics of the brushes in my collection. Here they are with some explanations of them:

All my brushes. Well almost all of them. This is pretty much my collection I just have multiples of each of the ones you see.

Up first Black Magic brush bent to 90 degrees for getting behind spokes. Bought this at Big Lots for like $2. Next is a Griots Wheel Scrub. It does really well on the barrels. It does get into some tighter areas than the EZ Detail and is very tough and durable. Next to that is the immortal Swissvax brush. What can you say about a classic. Great for cleaning the faces of wheels regardless of design. Next is one of the brushes I picked up at HD. This is just like the longer handle one in the next pic. I have used it for wheel faces but it only works particularly well on simple wheel designs.

The long handle brush is another one I got at HD. It works great on wheel wells. The long handle makes it easy to reach all of the well and the bristles are soft enough that it will compress and get into very tight spaces in the well. Next is the final brush I got at HD. This looks more like the one 911 showed me only it has a shorter handle. The bristles are stiffer than the other two I bought and makes it perfect for cleaning tires. Next to that is a lug nut brush I picked up at Autozone. Next to that is actually a barrel cleaner for paintball guns. I got this idea for using it to clean wheel barrels from a member here OrngeZ. These work great and get into tight areas but the only drawback is if the barrel has a lip on it. The stick isn't very flexible so it will miss areas when there is a lip in the barrel. You also see the green foam finger pocket that I use for cleaning wheel faces. This thing works great and I rarely ever miss a spot when using this. Only drawback to these are their durability.

First you see the EZ Detail Brush. I have a couple of these and they work phenomenal. Very durable and clean like no other. Only drawbacks are the massive splatter I get from it and that like richy says you can't really get behind tight calipers. The other brush is the one TexasTB recommended from Autozone. I picked up a few of these and they have a much thinner wire support so you can get behind just about every caliper out there. Now what makes these brushes so great (along with the $5 price tag) also makes it a huge problem. Since the wire is not thick it bends very easily and is not tremedously sturdy. You can't apply a lot of pressure or the thing bends all sorts of ways. I broke the first one at the handle on the second car I used it on. I use my second one with much less pressure and use it for wheels that are not too dirty and for dirty wheels that have tight caliper areas. Also since the diameter is smaller than the EZ you don't get near the splatter you do with the EZ. Richy this thing does the job on tight areas and I think would be just what you are looking for and at the $5 you can go through a number of them for the price of an EZ.

Now when the first AZ brush broke I decided to see if I could rig it up to go in my cordless drill. I trimmed away about an inch worth of bristles from the handle end where it had broken so I could put it in the drill. Well my cordless' batteries were dead so I got my Hitachi corded drill and put it in. Well the speed was set waaaayyyyy too high and when I turned it on it did sort of a flippity loopty loop. This actually benefitted me because somehow the wire wrapped around itself and made the brush sturdier. Well with my modified brush I put it in my cordless with a fresh battery and low speed setting and it really cleans.

So there you go richy all my brushes, hope that helps.

Yep thats it. It works well as its durable, fits into really tight areas, and you can apply a ton of pressure to it and not break it.

JL....Thanks very much for the pics and descriptions!! No bloody wonder this board is as great as it is..due in much to people like you! I gotta do a stateside run soon and get into an Autozone. I just wish we had stores in Canada with the selection you guys get. Lucky for me, I'm 10 minutes from the border.

I do agree about the AutoZone Brush. It is very flimsy. I learned to use less pressure. But for the price, they are decent. And they do get behind some tight calipers....
