How Do You Prefer To Remove LSP?

So Its time to wax you car a few months after correction but you want to remove all the old LSP before applying a new combo..... What is your preferred method of LSP removal?

 

Straight Optimum Power Clean through the foam cannon for a couple blasts then a dawn wash usually kills whatever is on the cars I work on. You can, of course, substitute CWC in place of Dawn though

PS, Greg, next time you go to CG can you pick up a gallon CWC for me?

 

ill wash thecar then do a rinse with dawn using a handheld trigger spray letting it dwell for about 2-3 mins by the time i get around the car, making sure not to spray my wheels or soft top - even with a simple rinse the beading takes a big hit

then once dry ill always use the same brand pre-wax cleaner as the wax im using to ensure the best possible look - i test all my waxes using both their cleanser + LSP

 

AG Powermax3 in a pump sprayer. Strips everything.

 

Usually I mix up CG Strong Wash with CWC and put it in the foam cannon and the wash bucket. I think I'm going to try the ZEP Citrus Degreaser next.

 

I usually just use a chemical paint cleanser like Lusso Revitalising Creme, I am not big on subjecting the car to harsh washes and such to remove previous layers of protection but I have used clay before as well.

 

Zep citrus at 10:1 here. I pre-rinse the entire car and spray each panel with zep citrus D right before im about to wash it.

 

ShowroomFX (Tropi-Care) Citrus Wash, MS Super Green Stuff + Maxi-Suds, or Opt Power Clean in a foam gun.

 

Tropicare Citrus wash for me too!!

 

Zep Citrus FULL strength in a foam gun.

 

I do a mix of DG 901 and Zep Citrus in my foam cannon.

IPA wipedown. Or PrepSol. Easy and effective. And you don't have to drag the hose out. You can do this in the garage.

 

how does the prepsol/ipa process work

do you start seeing the wax build up in your towel as you wipe down? Wouldnt it smear all over the panel?

im not sure ive gotten my head around using alcohol, just seems harsh

 

When using IPA, It's just spray and wipe. I normally spray the entire panel first, let sit for a minute, then wipe off.

If I'm using prepsol, I will apply it direct to the towel first, then wipe the panel down with the dampened towel.

I normally do the squeak test to determine if the panel is clean. just lightly swipe a finger on the surface after cleaning and dry. If it squeaks, it's clean. If it doesn't, I'll step up to something a little stronger.

 

hmmm im still not confident using prepsol or ip on paint

I used IP last time i did paint correction on my mustang but i used 91% cut 1:1..... Do you guys use 91% straight?

 

I use something similar to prepsol. Plus it takes all the tar off the car that im working on.

 

I used to use 91% IPA cut 50/50 , but decided I would give Menz Top Inspection a shot since it was on sale somewhere last summer. Top Inspection worked wonders, one pass and the surface passed the squeak test. It is pricey, but a little goes a long way . I'm a Weekend Warrior (~5-6 cars a year) so the 16.9 oz bottle will last me for awhile. I read that spraying the surface first was recommended, but I had much better luck applying it to the MF first.

 

menz top inspection= overpriced ipa. That's just my opinion though. After going through a full bottle of top inspection, i refilled it with ipa. No difference in performance. Just my experience though. I wouldn't waste the money on top inspection.
