So today I was at the NY Auto Show and decided I'd head upstairs and get a good laugh at the "Detail Suppliers" trying to market their product. First let me say, I've never seen such retards. This guy spends all day "sealing" this hood and then claims that the water will never bead using his product, only sheet. Then proceeds to spray spray paint on his car and asks the audience to remove it using a wet towel. Obviously nobody could, so I asked "Wouldn't a clay bar get that off" and he begins to tell me it would take hours for clay bar to remove it...I decided to keep my mouth shut because I didn't want to block him from selling products. He brings out this wax "10% cleaner, 90% wax, with no abrasives." This wax took the spray paint right off, but supposedly wouldn't harm your paint...idk Keep walking, and what do I see? A WAX DADDY STAND. Let me say I found it hilarious at first, and even snuck a picture (I'll upload tomorrow) then who do I see? The Man Himself, Wax Daddy. He was assisting other customers while I sat their giggling like a little girl listening to him and reminiscing on his videos....Anyway turns out while he may not know much about car cleaning he's a great guy. A guy was skeptical of trying his product so he took a 16oz bottle of his wax and gave it away. Now at this point I started to give the guy a chance and decided to pick his brain a bit. Told him I watched his videos and he responds "Oh yeah? Idk what the hell I'm doing in those" and while I found it funny, I was astonished by his honesty...I'm not sure if he was talking about actually cleaning, or making videos explaining cleaning...anyway decided to purchase a bottle of his citrus cleaner (which he can't get enough of :giggle to use on wheel wells. He ended up giving me some of his wax for free (16oz) which was very kind, but will never see my paint, but rather my families cars....thoughtful nonetheless.... By the end of all this I kind of felt bad for all the crap everyone talks, but then realized nobody really pokes at him, but his technique. I wonder if he knows he's not so much of a PRO in real life. I always thought these people are just trying to make a few bucks and knows exactly that they know very little about car detailing
Yeah I checked out the marketplace at the Auto Show last week also. I was hoping to see a decent wax company, but no luck. I saw Formula 113 there, but Wax Daddy wasn't there, just some young girl. Checking out the products, I was ready to buy the half gallon of the wash & wax soap, but she said $20 a bottle "on special for today" and I thought that was too much. I caught the end of some guy doing some test/show for people and then was saying how some kit was a $130 value but was asking for $45 just for today and everybody ran away. Z Best Wax was doing the same thing and he wanted $20 for a 16oz bottle of wax, a 16oz quick detailer, and a microfiber towel. Passed on that also. The only temptation was for the Leather Mate booth because this guy was showing people how well it works on shoes, he did my shoes and they came out pretty damn nice for what seemed like very little effort. But wasn't sure about $25 for just a tub of shoe polish so I just tipped him $5 for doing my shoes, asked for a brochure, and went on my way.
he had a stand up at an englishtown show in jersey but he wasnt there. maybe it was just one of his resellers... the spray wax i heard is good stuff..
You bite your tounge Tom! Nah I dunno if any of the stuff is good, the guy is just too much of a clown to consider buying something from. I realized when somebody "self-proclaims" themseleves as somthing, they are usually lying... and a douchebag :deadhorse:
I see what you're saying, but he is trying to sell a product to the general public...we are lucky enough to be more informed than the general public, but to go insulting just isn't nice. He was very polite and gave me a free 16oz bottle of his "wax". While it's not the biggest deal in the world, it was still very kind. No need to go insulting someone because they are trying to mae a buck.
I am all for people gettin' their cheese, the problem is that wax daddy contradicts himself quite a bit. Selling a product that polishes out swirls and scratches etc. is great but theirs videos of him putting a plastic bottle on the hood of a black car and letting it slide down to prove how slick the wax is.... not to mention using a terry bath towel in place of a regular wash mitt for washing. NOW, when people claim to be experts in the field of something, other people tend to listen to what they say (those people being novice detailers maybe). The problem comes in when those self proclaimed experts show people the wrong way of doing things but just because they have a youtube channel people things its okay to do what their doing. I am not saying this guy should be held to a high quality detailers standard but he uses old terry towels to buff off wax and waxes a car with his belly and pants smack on the paint, forget high standards how about plain old common sense?
I agree with you about his technique....quite frankly he sucks at cleaning a car, and he lies on his labels like many other manufactures...and that doesn't include only car care products. I'm just saying the guy was very nice to me, and while his videos, technique, and products may not be on par with what many of us use he was still kind enough to give me a free bottle of wax, and give the skeptical guy next to me a free bottle of wax who didn't buy anything. His lack of technique doesn't justify calling him a douche bag...maybe a liar, but not a douche bag. Just saying, as a person....he really wasn't half bad. Not trying to start an argument by any means man
Valid points, I guess meeting the man in person may have altered my opinions. I guess who people are, or how they act in the pubic eye sometimes comes off in a negative light as I ASSumed from his youtube videos where he was boastful and loaded with junk info. End of the day you got free product :applause2:
Car shows are rough. When we show up to shows around Pittsburgh (with brands like Lusso, Menzerna, 303, Poor Boys, P21S, Pinnacle, Wolfgang, Sonax, Klasse, etc....) we get people trying to tear us down all day. Every person at a car show thinks they know more than every other person at the show (including myself). It gets old real quick. You also have to remember, car care is relative. For someone who doesn't even wax their car, and never has, Wax Daddy's stuff may make sense. Something I have learned from having top end products in an indoor shopping mall, this stuff (and the time it takes), isn't for everyone. We have a saying, "Some people just want something that looks amazing, super easy to use, removed scratches, lasts a year, and most important is under $10." Those are the customers that walk out of the store empty handed and buy products from people like Wax Daddy who have no problem making those claims. I am fine with that.

kind of funny and related: I was at a local cars and coffee even on saturday and after driving 60 miles with a 2 day old coat of zymol on the car i needed to do a quick QD so i brought out my onr at qd strength and started wiping down my car. This guy comes by and was like oh man your car looks great....but it could look better. To which i said I doubt it. the guy is like "what are you using on your car Hot shot?" I told him no its optimum no rinse to which he said "oh so its probably relabeled hot shot which is a relabel of my brand" he then asked if it had carnauba. to which i explained that no this stuff is not a relabeled hot shot its a polymer encapsulate that allows me to pick up dirt w/o marring the paint. Immediately he gets this smug look on his face and said oh well mine has carnauba and does the same thing except it will give you a deep crystal shine. I told him that there is nothing he has that can look better on my paint and he then goes to the hood (still dusty) and sprays his crap on my hood and i let out this NO (like i was 5 and some guy in a van was offering me candy) and he goes " what? ill help you!" i said no your going to scratch my paint if your soo insistent on trying to show me use it on this panel with no dirt. He sprayed it and wiped it twice on my panel and then stood back and said "yup looks waaaay better than what you use." I laughed at him and said I cant tell a difference. By that time a crowd had formed as he was bragging about how his stuff was soo superior to what was already on my car, so i told everybody that unfortunately i didnt see a difference on the one panel he sprayed it on versus the rest of the car and they all agreed. needless to say that guy packed up and drove away.
