Good tar remover by the gallon?

laquer thinner can be had relatively cheap and in bulk. ardex also makes a spinoff called spot and tar remover which is basically the same thing. theyre out of philly.

 

The problem in using laquer thinner..be careful around plastics.

 

careful as anyone should be using any solvents on or around plastics, not just laquer thinner.

 

I got some info for the Tardis. But the news isn't good. Does anyone live near Frazer PA that would be interested in picking up these Gallons and shipping them out themselves? In order for autosmart to ship them out to us they have to use Hazmat approved freight. Which cost $111 no matter 1 gallon or 5 gallon container. Yes you read that right...$111. I was told they would drive the product themselves within a reasonable distance to meet someone but they are 3 hours away from me and driving 2.5 hours to meet isn't an option. If someone is willing to pick up, or meet up with a driver and ship out these gallons I will arrange for group buy pricing and we will make sure that the person gets their supply for no cost at the least.

Tardis is made up of basic OTC chemicals. Do you just want to buy it because of the name? If you look up MSDS on it its easy to see that it is almost entirely made up of Xylene and White Spirit. Nothing really fancy about it.

 

Can you give me an exact address in Frazer? Then I could see how far from me it is.

Are you sure? I understand its more effective than tarminator. It says it also has surfactants that make it easier to rinse away. I'm just not happy with tarminator thats all. I had a hell of a time removing a larger tar deposit. Small spots are no problem but this large blob was a major major project.

 

It's about an hour away if traffic isn't bad.

Ok i see it is 30 - 60 percent xylene. are you guys saying that spraying $20 per gallon Xylene on my rims is going to safely remove tar?

Tarminator actually has a lot more ingredients in it.

 

Just take a look the sheets and come to a conclusion to yourself. No matter what petroleum tar remover you use there will always be a slight oily residue and will need a second follow up. Its the nature of the beast. You cant dissolve tar and not have any residue left behind.

I use a mix of xylene and white spirit(Crown odorless paint thinner) which is effectively the same as tardis, but after I use it up I wont be making any more. It is not worth the hassle of purchasing and mixing two chemicals when plain diesel or kerosene for a few dollars a gallon works just the same.

Point being, if you used kerosene around plastics it will not harm the plastic.
