Yea I've been to the Corvette Plant twice in Bowling Green, KY and I was surprised on both occasions how little work I saw being performed.
see, that's what I mean...but GM pays the big bucks, plus they give them a lot of benefits...401k and such... Jeremy Clarkson, where are you? I wanna hear his opinion...
Quality also hits the bottom line. When an automaker has a higher per car warranty expense, it just gets added to the total product cost. In order to keep the final price down, again, they have to cut corners somewhere else on the everyday brands (Chevy. etc). I would believe this could be a several hundred dollar cost hit (wild guess) even if they reimbursed on less than prevaling wage and used actual parts cost. The automakers lost a bundle by building more than they could sell and then having to dump them on the market, and om leasing, etc when values were falling dramatically during the lease period so the value at the end of the lease was significantly less than plan. I am sure all these caused lots of red ink.
General Motors heads for record share sale General Motors (GM) is set to raise US$20.1bn (£12.6bn) through its initial public offering (IPO) of shares, making it the largest IPO in the US to date. The amount could rise to a world record $23.1bn if underwriters exercise an option to sell more shares. Surprisingly strong investor demand has allowed the carmaker to lift the price of the shares on offer to $33 from the $26 it had initially hoped for.Source BBC
I hope GM builds to a higher level, as I own a GM product(Chevrolet HHR SS) but I was not a fan of "Obama" being the interim CEO by proxy. GM can do it if management does not go off into the wrong direction and gets pensions under control, the car I have is a far cry better than the 2000 model year Monte Carlo that was the wifes car then(Unravelled like a ball of yarn) never thought I would buy GM again but did based upon the merits of the present car we own now.
Where on earth does all this money keep coming from that they are pouring into GM and other "rescue efforts"? It's "just" another $30 billion...
Liberalism: Money DOES grow on trees! And you don't even have to put in the effort to cut it down, people will do that for you, and they'll make the same amount.
they print some more out. Go looks at our national debt clock lol. I swear i remember being able to go to a store and buy the best jeans for 80 dollars. Now at stores like Guess its like 128. inflation WTF lol. I don't think we should keep bailing out GM. Let them burn. Ill keep buying german and japanese. GM should have learned from the past. look up the definition of Insanity. Cant keep making a shitty car, and expect people to all of the sudden buy it just because the company is dying. WELL THEN MAKE A BETTER PRODUCT!
Just the worst: In all honesty, they have some of the most bland looking vehicles on the market. And they all seem to be around for a year, then they either change it up, or remove the model and create a new replacement. That way, after a year, you're always driving an outdated model or a model that doesn't exist anymore.
What I want to know is which retard at GM figured this POS would go fast enough to need the downforce of that rear spoiler. Just sayin'......
I am just tired of On Star commercials. I'd like to see some car commercials from GM. Who really gives a shit about On Star? Honestly...
garbage motors cannot make good looking cars simply because they WASTE time playing golf...And every time they get help from their companies from overseas (Australia designed new Camaro) like Germany (Opel), they always mess things up by putting UGLY Saturn badge on it with UGLY Saturn headlights...I simply REFUSE to buy something like that. IT'S RUBBISH! New Buick Enclave is actually not bad looking, but those buick headlightsand front grill just ruin it! If I was to buy from the big three, it would be Ford. I will not buy Chrysler, because I don't like their products at all...
I am glad to see the investment has improved the company since I believe it did help stabilize the economy. I just hope the management and unions learn from this. As for designs, it is part of a company's culture. I thought GM had a lot of just bad designs over the years. It is less about corruption, laziness, etc. but institutional conservatism. If you spend time working in a large corporation, you will learn to understand the group think, etc.
stabilize the economy? with the Fed's plans to devalue the US dollar, the collapse of the market, and the gment preparing for marshall law when the people hit the streets over it, the economy is far from improved its actually going to be all downhill from here, especially since the countries who own the US debt, namely China, are fuming over the fed's plans
Jeremy Clarkson said this about a Buick LeSabre, but I think it applies to this car as well. "It was rubbish when it was new, it was built by idiots, and it's rubbish now."
Had a chance to drive the new 600hp Cadillac. Client said to keep the speed down as it wasn't broken in. Yeah, OK. Goes like a raped ape! Interior reminds me of a Cavalier. Typical American car. Drive that thing hard and it'll fall apart in 6 months.
GM not only BORROWS from us....... they also get PAID BY US...... the US Military contracts GM to build military vehicles, weapons, equipment and other doodads that work like shit.... the Hummer? it works-ish.... the Hummer replacement? complete shit made by GM. GM's real name is GOVERNMENT MOTORS.... not General Motors. the US government has their heads so far up their own asses and any room left is filled with pride..... i never owned american cars, and never will. I have a 17 year old japanese sports car that still has excellent interior that isnt falling apart and still handles like a dream and hangs with the best of them... and its holding value decently.... i paid $16k for it when it was 38K brand new.... cant say that about a $60k corvette z06 after 10years....
they actually borrowed from the privately run fed but yes it's the american people who will have to pay the debt back in taxes
