    michakaveli Welcome to Detailing

I'm taking notes. I just picked up a nice set of 1991 Taurus SHO "slicer" wheels for my daily driver, '05 Taurus. They will need refinishing, but are straight and no curbing! :applause2:

great job- have you thought of chemically stripping the finish or shot blasting before repairing?? Finish will last much longer

video software - sony vegas and Adobe Premier are good once you learn how to use them

Stripping would be your best choice. Some wheels are actually too delicate for media blasting. It would also make your life easier.

Thanks Jay! This was sort of an experimental refurb. I was given permission to do whatever I wanted with them really (OK what ever it took to make them look nice...) so I thought I'd explore the cheapest and simplest (maybe a bit more work intensive, but simplest nonetheless) path first (I think the materials cost around $25). Also, most of the sanding that was done was really only to score the paint before priming. These are track soldiers and in about 1 more month when the track opens back up they're going to be in the same condition again :). The other sanding was done to remove/smooth out scratches so bead blasting or paint remover wouldn't have helped in this case. Plus with most paint removers you still have to go back over them very carefully with prep-sol before repainting so I'm sure that would have been just as time consuming as the way I did it here.

Cheers for the software suggestions! I'm giving Corel Video Studio X# a shot now... looks pretty promising!

See above ^^ :) And these are some of those pretty delicate alloys... Smoothing out the edges where I used the grinder was a breeze even with 1500 grit.
