Karl stated it very well. If you've been fortunate enough to have neither yourself or your family threatened/injured by another for nothing more than your property or money, than you wouldn't have any idea why this thread exists. I'm a professional with a graduate degree. I don't regularly have threats made on my life. I lived in an upper middle class neighborhood. So, what's to worry about? How about two punk kids that were probably scoping out my house for days/weeks. While I was at work, these little shitbags break down the front door with a crowbar while my wife was at home on the phone. This could have ended very badly, but my wife was unharmed (physically...mentally is another story) and the scum were caught by police a few miles down the road. I certainly hope no one here owns a weapon because they think it's 'cool'. If you have no desire to protect yourself or your loved ones, that's your prerogative. But that doesn't mean we're all gun-toting yahoos.
i used to think the same thing until i was at a friends apartment complex and saw 2 13-15 year old kids (one that i knew) fighting and decided to break it up. the kid that i did not know decided to pull out a .380 and shoot 9 times at me as i ran to cover. i vowed that day to never be without a gun and a cwp again.when you see bullets hit the brick wall behind you it changes how you think. i am a 34 year old law abiding citizen a i will never let a criminal decide if i make it home to my family at night
Thanks for sharing the pictures Karl. I've had my eye on a matte black g-shock for a while... :thumb:
^^^^^WOW............. "i am a 34 year old law abiding citizen a i will never let a criminal decide if i make it home to my family at night" that is a very powerful statement, and shows you have the maturity and the reasoning to protect yourself. you are very lucky to be alive. I love G shock watches......very practical.
most scared i have ever been. when i saw the kid pull out the gun i started backing up. then i saw him shoot in the air 1 time and his arm slowly coming down directly in front of him..it was about 8pm and had just started getting dark. as i saw the muzzle flash the next bullet hit the apartment building behind me i started running and dropped behind a parked car...it was 7 years ago and i can still remember it like yesterday.
I do have an awesome job, I am a stay at home father of 2 and a 5 year old LOL.......... most of my experience is from my prior career path. " I was threatened with a 2x4 " people have been killed with less, anything from a cell phone to a 2x4 can be used to kill someone; many people take the assumption of personal security for granted.
As far as why we choose to arm ourselves, it's the same reason why you wear your seatbelt when you drive. It's not because you plan to get in an accident every single day, but jn case you do you'll be ready. As far as a handgun goes, it's not hurting anyone by me carrying it concealed. No one knows the wiser and it surely doesn't make me feel cool. I figure I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Think of it that way.
exactly, its not like you see it anyway....... you will not know if I am carrying or Billy or Ed is carrying unless it comes out. that is the whole point. "As far as why we choose to arm ourselves" that and its our god given right to defend our selves with whatever means necessary, be that a gun, knife pen,my fist, whatever.
This kid could not shoot..........thank God for you and that, probably had the "Gangsta" side grip shooting position. Attempted murder is no joke, but for me a hydra shock coming his way would have caused his lifespan to end @ 15 years old..........some lessons are never learned while you are alive alas.
^^^ sadly that is how most people die, as innocent bystanders when some punk decides to unload ....... can't hit shit holding the gun sideways etc. then some kid sleeping 1/4 mile away takes a round through the side of the house.
I honestly don't know how you guys live like that. I can sympathize with you, but I still don't know how you do it. Although we do have shootings here, most of it is gang members killing each other in targeted hits. I'm ok with that. I couldn't live in a place where I felt the need to carry a firearm to be safe. It brings me to tears when I see on the news that some kid was killed by a stray bullet.
you get used to it...... just try to shield your kids from it the best you can. Its not like I live in Tikrit or anything, its just the unpredictable nature of desperate people. Alot is brought on with the lack of employment, bankrupt state, lax judicial system etc. Criminals don't care, they have more rights then the victims in California so they have nothing to loose. my 5 year plan is to move out of California all together, move to Montana, oregon, wyoming somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.
That would be awesome. I'd love to have a summer home in Montana. I hear its beautiful there. I can here what you are saying about desperate people. People do crazy things when the shit hits the fan. And BTW, criminals have more rights than victims everywhere. You think its bad where you are, watch our news and see what criminals here get away with. Cool to be stay at home Dad. If my wifes business gets a bit busier, I may look at the same thing.
I've been to both Vancouver and the Central Valley in CA. And I can tell you it's bad in the Central Valley. I've heard a lot of gang members (predominantly Hispanics - which I bring up as the race is very family oriented which feeds into the gang mentality) of Nor Cal and So Cal get pushed out of the city limits; which is why they have flocked to the area. It's been proven that assailants think twice when they weigh the odds of the victim having a gun.
My wife and I have friends in Montana - we have been there and driven through it on the way to Minnesota. Montana is absolutely beautiful. You can choose to live where its really cold in winter and snows or where its really cold and not so much snow. Hunting is outstanding. Everyone has guns and respects the heck out of them. I think if the Federal Gov ever tried to really restrict guns, Montana would secede from the Union. We are moving too, in about 3 years when my last stepdaughter goes to college. Montana sure looks nice. Wyoming is also very nice too. I have always liked the license plates that say "Big Sky Country" Dan F
You are 100% correct, the Hispanics have strangle hold on the criminal activity in the valley, alot of it now is being backed by the drug cartels. But the SE asians are mixing it up pretty good too, they specialize in home invasions and are more organized, but the Hispanic gangs are getting that way too. Don't forget the NaziLoweriders, they control the meth trade and are now in bed with the mexican gangs........ money sees no race or color these days. As the big cities like Fresno, Clovis etc push them out of the cities they move into the Rural areas and it spreads like cancer. 90% of all criminal gangs in California are controlled from in the prison systems, so its very hard to control the issues, the older OGs are now shot callers, so you wont catch them doing anything, its the younger punks moving up the ranks you have to worry about....(whole different conversation) mix that with average people who have been unemployed, are strung out on meth and get involved with drugs, etc...... its all one big cluster **** and only way the police can manage it is catch and release due to over crowding and hopefully the guy they just rolled for burglary will kill someone then they can toss a murder charge at him and move him out of the county to the state facilities. it has gotten so bad the US marshal service, ATF, FBI and DHS all have tactical offices in Fresno to deal with the BS. I have family in Jackson Hole, and Corvalis OR as well as Bend, im hoping to GTFO out in 5 years or less.
Montana and Wyoming already are trying to create their own government, they see the federal government failing and are trying to counter act it. you are right, those states are low crime and people still have basic respect. Im a huge fan of that LOL
I feel your pain, but on the East Coast. Work in Newark, NJ the carjacking capital of the world and the level of gang-related murders among the highest in the nation on par with Los Angeles and Oakland. Some days Roscoe is out on the front seat, don't want to waste time with the snap. Here is a cool vid about Newark. You will notice from time to time some wierdo or gangbanger will start shooting and before LE can get there a "Rightwing gun nut" like myself who is one prepared to stop this action as that person's weapon is loaded.....................and the person can shoot straight will end the person who usually does not have a registered weapon as they do not care about being a "Law abiding citizen". Take the guy who came in the board of supervisors chambers in Arizona a while back, starting shooting to KILL everyone, and you see on the tape the retired policeman shooting @ him(Coward ducks and is suprised as hell btw) and is now deceased "With the quickness". Imho someone who starts shooting has willfully given up their right to be a civilised human being and deserve to go away for some "Dirtnap" time, of course libs feel different as I watched again the movie with Michael Douglas as the "American President" and he rales in a speech "I am going to get the guns"................funny Mr Prez does that include your Secret Service Detail??.................oh no................................ A armed populace keeps people that are intent on doing dirt from "Doin tha dirt" and this is not is dispute(Sidenote some will be like "Easy Bob with the rant".......but most who have the common sense about them know this is true).
