parking lots are the worst. I try to park as far away from any cars as possible. Corner spots (with curbs) are the best because you can park as close to the curb as possible leaving tons of room for open doors. But even then some nimrod parks right beside me.
This is part of the reason I photograph the license plates of the cars next to me when I park (if I can't park away from anyone). That way if there's new damage I can figure out if it was the car that left, or the new car in that spot. Then go from there if the driver is present (new car) or gone (fleeing from scene of accident).
Mindflux, it wouldn't matter anyway. Back in April someone dinged me with their door, but stayed next to me any way. I lined up their truck door with my door and the hit was a perfect match. Being the hot head I am I called my GF at the time and told her I was gonna be arrested for assault in a bit. She pleaded that I call the cops and I finally gave in. Cop came and told me nothing can be proven without a witness. Cost me $200 in wet sanding/compounding and paintless dent removal.
You can not call it in as a hit and run in a parking lot because it is private property. Police can not do a thing about it. The only thing you can do is let your insurance company fight it out for you.
I always park away from people whenever I can. But as everyone knows there is always some a-hole that has to park right next to you even though there are 100 open spots. Drives me absolutely nuts. As few weeks back I was in Boston detailing a boat. I parked in the wharf parking lot. I get done and I come out to my truck and I have a mini parked so close to my drivers side that I had to get in the passenger side and crawl over my center console. I couldn't believe it. I must say that when they got of their car they didn't ding my door any. Luckily, cause I was ready to have a conniption.
ffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu........................ I had to look at this on the computer. my phone isnt the best screen, and I was away for a few days. This sux Bill. Nice to know the girlie is as upset as you. my wife would not give that much of a care.
Sorry to hear this happened. Having a 3/4 ton diesel truck like myself can go two ways in the state of Texas. Most men here trash their trucks as it's for work, and it's meant to be used that way. But if you keep your shit clean, people seem to respect it. A black BMW will get keyed all day long, but everyone (so far, knock on wood) has stayed away from mine. I only have one paint chip, and it was my own fault. I was washing the truck, bent the hose, but the pressure built up and it slipped out of my fingers, slamming against my paint. I did not have a hose attachment, so the brass took off the paint. GUTTED!
THat's BS man... this happened to my G the other week at a mall here in Toronto. Was BS. I didn't see it happen, but the car that was there when I left was parked so close i had to go in sideways. I was going to key his car but I took a deep breath and drove away.
I feel your pain. This is what we walked out to see after eating ice cream....... Some @ss hat must have backed into it with a hitch..... of course, no note either like yours. Cowards...
