Nica - When you say you go to a "3M shop" are you referring to a store that only sells 3M products or a painter's supply type house that offers many different brands of products (including 3M)? I was under the impression that both 3M & EDGE manufacture their own pads?

OTOH, I can totally see it beneficial for 3M to purchase EDGE in respect to gaining market share and this could possibly be a cheaper alternative to manufacturing their own pads in house. Just a thought....Hopefully Aaron could clarify.

Interesting, hope to hear more about this info. I've never had good luck with durability from Edge, but their Customer Service is top notch. On paper their products work well.

Never fear. I talked with Aaron this morning and he explained to me that 3m has aquired all of his technology and patented rights he is still running the company and nothing will change they believe that 3m will make there process of pads the industry standard.:applause:

Near as I can tell, Edge held patent(s) on their two-sided, quick connect system. Perhaps 3M made this play in order to get their hands on that technology without paying royalties?

Oh yes, when I said 3M shop it was exactly that a full blown 3M shop/building. Nothing but 3M products. I have also been to a body shop that sells a bunch of 3M products but also sells Edge. I found it a bit odd that the 3M building had the Edge pads, seeign as it was sopposedly all 3M products  but it makes sense now

3M has had a doubled sided wool pad for well over 20 years with a screw on adaptor, which is much safer. Hopefully they can improve on the edge products.

Much safer how? They both require some sort of plate in the center between the two pads. So there's indifference there. They both require an adapter or screw in the center of the pad.. so they both have the potential 'metal to paint' problem. I could see, POSSIBLY.. having a pad spin off the Edge adapter but I've never seen it happen nor heard of it happening.

Never had an issue with the retention of the edge adapter. Solid as a rock

O.K., how many problems have you heard of the 3m wool pads coming apart or coming loose. I have never had a failure with this set-up. There are numerous accounts of the Edge system failing, so the 3M system is much better. Like I said I hope 3M can improve on the Edge system.

No issues with my Edge 3k adapter and Edge pads. I hope for the best in that none of my Edge equipment fails on me.

You know edge has come out with a new asapter thats called the industrial adapter it is much easier to use and the pad won't pop off. Go to there site and see the industrial video.
