Do all nano coatings need to be washed with special nano shampoo?

Kinda curious about this. Is it just the Wolf's body wrap that requires this special shampoo or all of the nano coatings (cquartz, etc.)?

What will happen if I use regular products such as ONR and regular shampoos on a Wolf's "body wrapped" car?

I have yet to purchase Wolf Nanobathe or Nano Quick Detailer. I just did an ONR wash this weekend the followed it up with a quick detail with Prima Slick, beading, sheeting, and the look seem all the same to me and its been on my mustang gt for 2 months so far. I may have clogged up the nano coating with the polymers in ONR and Slick but to be honest with you I have 90% of the bottle of Bodywrap left so if it fails on me before the 6 months comes I will just polish it off and apply another two coats of BW on it.:) I have a gallon of Maxisuds II, 3/4 of a gallon of Prima Slick, 3/4 of a gallon CG V7, 3/4 of a gallon of CG Glossworkz. So I am going to continue to use up those product before I decide to order Wolfs Nanobathe and Nano quick detailer. When I had Cquartz on my mustang I would wash it with CG Glossworkz and it was fine man.

Curious to see what Jesse says. I get a feeling it's not needed but recommended for longevity. So I guess the point is to have a soap without polymers. But ironically, polymers add a tiny bit of protection/slickness back on to the surface so any potential loss should be made up for.

Danny, when you mention the nano coating gets clogged up, what effect does this have on the coating? I assume it has to do with clarity of the finish?

From my understanding, normal shampoos and quick detailers degrade the coatings in nano sealants affecting their ability to bead or sheet water.

I think, Jesse has mentioned that using regular shampoos, it will diminish the lotus effect caused by the nano protection. I don't think the protection itself will be gone.

Thanks; now that post is coming back to me. So essentially, beading is due to the extremely smooth surface. I assume when the pores clog up it creates micro-sized bumps that effect the lotus effect.

Yes, it can mess with the effectiveness of the coating but I wouldn't feel pressured into washing with a particular shampoo. Key word is effective. Nano coatings are designed to have a high level of dirt repellancy, making them attract less dust and dirt, and making it extremely easy to wash any accumulated dirt, off the vehicle. Shampoos and spray waxes typically contain oils and polymers that work against what the coating is trying to do, but I don't think they will impact the durability of the coating.

I would say not to worry about it and do what's convenient for you. If it still bothers you, you can pretty easily seek out a wax-free shampoo for maintenance cleanings

I hate to be "that guy" but the point of all these "nano" and I stress the " " is that with the increased durability they all claim to market, the point of this was having detergent resistance, and chemical etch resistance. I was under the impression(maybe its what we expect from them) that the whole point of spending more money, applying a slightly more labor intensive product is that trade off of not having to to go extra lengths to ensure the car is protected.

Something is not right if all of a sudden you have to use special this and that. Because realistically, shampoos, the non gloss non wax types shouldnt contain any oils or anything to clog. They would be a surfactant and a detergent probably with a foaming agent...

Siloxane sealants and some products marketed as "nano" which we all know to be basically a size indicator have these same problems with not having extended durability, and having only "Normal" detergent resistance.

    No problem man:)

What Blue said in the quote below. But I do have a feeling that not using Nanobathe and Nano quick detailer to maintain Bodywrap will in turn cause it to fail sooner, but since one gets 150mls of Bodywrap, and you can do anywhere from 10 to 15 vehicles with a single bottle of Bodywrap. I am not too worried because I can just polish it off and re prep the surface for another 2 coats and being that its easy to apply make it less of a worry for me.
