I like the idea, I just don't think it necessarily has to replace the prizes given out each month. It'd be a cool addition but I think the prizes are awesome.

Well this is a very good suggestion and I have thought about this many, many times.

The thing is that the whole 'detailing industry' is not regulated or governed as it has been mentioned. A certificate or diploma is just a peace of paper but what makes it valuable is the institution or governing organization that stands behind it's training, education, grades ect..ect.

Here is an example, I went to school to become an Electrical Engineer. I now work as an Electrical Engineer, when I was looking for a job my credentials, school marks, references ect..ect..helped me get the job I now have. Well the entire 'detailing industry' needs something like this with out it it's really a free far all. I mean who am I to say your a professional and you are not? I'm a nobody. Just because I own Detailing Bliss doesn't gave me the power to say your a professional detailer...what it does do is give me the power to limit the advertising that goes on around here.

What I'm trying to get at is this, all those members wishing to promote their services/products/website can do so but need to have my permission, members can have a Detailing Bliss tittle but it comes at a price, this is called upgrading your account. You can upgrade your account and receive certain privileges by simply clicking on User CP then on Paid Subscriptions and choose accordingly.

Well I still think it would be cool. It's a piece of paper, but at least it shows you've been recognized as a quality detailer. It should have requirements though.

Don't get me wrong the idea is nice and I'd be up for it but it would have to have some requirements, so if we can all brain storm and come up with something together that pleases everyone I'm up for it :thumb:

    I got it!

Okay, anyone interested on a "Detailing Bliss Professional Detailer Certificate" has to be trained by Asphalt Rocket and put up with his jokes and must detail 50 cars with him!

There done deal hahahahaa I joke, I joke...but you know in reality that wouldn't be so bad. I could come up with detailers that have proven them selves to me...um..such as Asphalt Rocket, rich..ect..ect..ect..you train side by side for a few vehicles (work it in your own schedules) when the person training you says your good to go then you get a certificate :thumb: mmmm...not a bad idea..heck any of you Detailing Bliss members in Calgary I'd be happy to "train" you guys my self :peace:

I was thinking a couple videos under different lighting since vids aren't as easily doctored, and just pics that show before and after. Also, they have to be an upstanding member of the community, show through knowledge of detailing, and be referred by so many members.

Just ideas. The only problem is that those requirements are already met by most of the DB community lol!

A certificate program has been tried in the past by a few different places. I think the NAPDR tried it or something. The problem is the ones that have tried it are the asses of the detailing community and nobody can stand them and they all seemed to have a hidden agenda.

I would like to be involved in this also. It just seems to me that all that would like to involved won't be able to because of nica's detailing criteria. Which you need but it's not going to be prudent for all people and I think I might be one of those people. If I wanted to be trained by Asphalt Rocket. I'm in southern MA he's in Northern VA. Say it's a ten hour ride. So it makes one day travel. One day training and another day of travel. Not to mention a hotel room and food and I still only have one car under my belt. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying I certainly would like to meet ken, richy,Nica and others and be Trained and have some fun. Then there is an issue of cars what cars might we work on. Hold on I know what you're going to say... I just detailed my car yesterday and the Paint meter is saying you better not do it again. These are just some thoughs i wanted to share and maybe get some feed back.thanks for listening.

If you want to have fun with it, have Carlos give the test in real time via a web-x conference..lol. You could have guest presenters and all sorts of cool stuff! That would certainly limit cheating.

I think it's a great idea. I know that many industries have licensing and certification. I'm a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and can see the benefits of having that piece of paper hanging on the wall. I know when I was doing mobile electronics installs back in my younger days, they even had a certification (MECP). I do believe it would have to be some sort of state or national organization that is recognized to set it up.

I also don't think that having "that piece of paper" hanging on the wall makes you any better at what you're doing - mostly I think it shows you could pass the test and have had some extra curricular training. I know some darn good accountants who have never passed the CPA exam, and I know some CPA's who I wouldn't put faith in to do my 1040EZ.

A certification/licensing program is a very good idea, though. I just think it would carry more weight if there was some sort of organization that was backing it up.

Yeh well I wanna say thanks to everyone who posted here and shared their views on this, also thanks carlos for putting in you opinion. Unfortunately it seems it would not be possible to do something close to this so for now im not going to spend more time thinking about it lol i have school starting once again in a few weeks and i work all the other time, plus details on the weekends and the girl friend somewhere in between that mess. But I would like to eventually come back to the idea and maybe get something worked out where a commitee could be started on this board which would judge someones work in some way so that they can later say well ive been named a certified detailer on DB and at least get a paper we can hang up in our man caves just for kicks and giggles.

If regulating the detailing industry was possible it would of been done years ago...... but it hasn't, why? Because it can't be.

Which leads to the same reply, "Why?" Well because there are far to many hacks that will not comply to any of the rules and regulations but will continue to undercut those who pay for insurance, license, employees, etc.

But why not? Well because detailing or washing a car is NOT a necessary function. It is not needed for daily operations of any business. It's a luxury item.

Detailers are not working on any systems that involve regulation such as air conditioning, brakes, electrical nor doing anything like eye exams, spinal operations or defending or prosecuting people in court.

Lastly who will run this "Overseer" organization? If I detail a car one way and someone else in New York detailers it another way but in order to get certified we must do it "their" way who says their way is better?

Now I have stated this many times over.......if insurance companies get involved then the story might be different because people will be given discounts if they go to a "certified" detailer to keep their cars in top cosmetic appearance....but even this is far fetched and will most likely never happen because once again not every wants or cares to have a clean car so again, the detailing industry will never be regulated.

I know you are raining on everyone's parade regarding the certification, but from my point of view, you are correct on every point made. That's the reality of it.

Anthony hit the hammer on the head.

I attended Rightlook.com for my detailing "training" and at the end received a certificate. Now I was very.. proud of this thing and even put it in a frame. And would even tell people what I had done, but honestly, they didn't care, nor did they know who Rightlook.com is or was.

In detailing there are no absolutes on everything... we all may agree on certain processes, but other areas we are all going to have different ideas and ways of doing things. I would like to see come kind of control come into the detailing arena that would prevent hacks from joining our ranks, but like stated previously, if it becomes regulated, the people who would regulate it probably would be a bunch of snooty law makers who have never detailed in their lives and only go by what some big wigs of chemical corporations would say.

so in the end, we would only be shooting ourselves in the foot... in the end it's all about selling yourself before the product, and then making sure your product is the absolute best.

Well said Anthony, sad but very, very true. Detailing is quite a convoluted, controversial industry...need an example of what I mean by controversial? Oh I don't know lets say Zymol for example lol. Any who Anthony nailed it.

We could still work something out just fur fun, I stress fun here. At the end of the day you guys must realize that I'm no one and my signature means nothing on a Detailing Bliss Certificate out in the real world, to us Detailing Bliss members it will mean something but to show it to a customer or potential customer will be nothing more then a peace of paper, it will hold no weight what's so ever. Just wan to make sure we are clear that's all :hippie:
