Been using this BP for about a month and am thoroughly impressed. I really liked the GI 3" BP but I broke mine and deciced to try out Phils as a replacement. Biggest advantage of the DD BP is the low profile flat backing... this helps apply even pressure to your smaller pads. Its harder to get heavy cutting out of smaller pads to begin with on the rotary... the hard flat backing allows you to lean in comfortably and correct in tight places. This thing is rock solid, no chance of breaking it. 10/10 no doubt... Working it on some Hyndai drinking2 Simple yet effective :headbang:
so you think its fine without foam like 3m BP. just dont know if i should get one with foam like rubish boys have or just this one?
Unless its a very stiff foam I would stick to flat hard backed BPs for 3"... trust me when you lean in a foam backed 3" BP you get too much give and not enough correction. When I started using this one I saw the difference, still the GI BP has its place I just prefer this one after using both a lot.
i thought that if you going over complex curve, its more even presure with foam BP. or its not how it work?
With bigger pads and BP's yes... hence why I mostly use the 3M BP but for small areas once that foam compresses with a small pad you loose your steady cut... trying to polish a A pillar for example at a downward angle... the top of the pad has more pressure applied to it than the bottom because the backing foam contours forward as you apply pressure to the machine. You will get more cut with the top 50% of the foam than the bottom 50%. Flat BP stays flat, thus your pad stays flat. Not saying foam backed little BPs are bad, they actually work fine... its just that with smaller pads on the rotary you have trouble getting enough cut to begin with, flat BP's help that issue a bit. Just my 2 cents
