Detailers Domain Yellow cutting foam review...

Stopped by DD today and picked up some of the new yellow cutting pads.

I did a quick few tests in my garage when I got home and was very impressed.

The yellow foam cuts more than the orange foam yet feels softer and polishes much smoother. I used it with SIP, M105 and 106fa and it performed well with all 3 polishes on the hood of a 335 BMW.

I will probably be using this pad tomorrow on a DB9 and will be sure to have pics and more reviews on what I think.

To be honest I thought the yellow foam would be way to stiff to polish smoothly but it was the exact opposite (american foam vs. european foam)

I was about to do a review on it too, but I don't have a car that really needs it until Saturday.

Tried it on a couple RIDS on an Acura today, very smooth and cut very well. Left some decently bad holograms, but that's to be expected, and they cleaned up just fine with PO85RD. I honestly don't see a reason to really use Orange ever again. I really like these yellow pads :mounty:

Couple extra points, the stiffness is between Orange and Green in the Uber pads, which is good, still soft enough to go smoothly and handle curves well and not skip a little like Orange sometimes does. These seem to cut like PFW, they don't finish down as well but who cares when your 2nd step is going to take out any holograms it leaves anyway.

I'll have 50/50's, holograms, and RID before and after shots on Saturday. :thumb:

So is the foam European, as opposed to American, on Phil's pads? Maybe that's why I like them so much better than the standard LC pads.

Huh, I never knew there was "American" foam, I always though the whole european foam thing was a gimmick that they used to try and sell pads.

I guess you learn something new every day!

 

I will look into this as well since Dave knows exactly how to evaluate the proper capabilities of a product without any BS.

 

wow thanks for this thread. at first, i was thinking i wasnt going to go near these as i dont like my yellow CCS pads much at all. but after reading this, im defnitely going to have to check them out, espcially if theyre softer than orange ubers.

 

different yellow foam, huh? Sounds very nice, Phil always carries the best stuff!!!

 

Why carry something if you are not going to personally use it. That is why I know if I get something from his that he has used it at some point and approves of it.

Thats right ^^ I had a long talk with Phil yesterday and he told me he uses every single product he sells, if anything just so he has the proper application and knows the results so he can tech support it. Notice he also doesnt sell 10 different kinds of the same product but rather just 1 or 2.

Ok I finished up the Aston this morning. Unfortunately for you (but fortunately for me) the finish wasn't too bad so the yellow pad from DD did not get a lot of play only a few panels were in need of the extra cut.

I did get to do some more correction with it however and once more I was pleased. On the DB9 I used it in conjunction with menz power finish.

As I stated before the pad, once primed, is far smoother and less hoppy than the orange pads. I followed up on this car with 2 steps after it so I wasnt so concerned with my finish after initial correction but I guarantee that 85rd and a finish pad will knock out whatever you induce with the yellow pad.

This is not 100% conclusive stuff, I would like to do some more full corrections with it on different paints to see how it performs overall but for now I am impressed without a doubt!

i guess ill have to try this. i did felt difference when used yellow on S600 and then used DD orange on 09 STI. i liked yellow a lot better, i guess ill order dd when i run out of LC. thanks for review

 

ordered it and got it. used it yesterday and friday. only complain is velcro area is same size as BP so its harder to remove pad and have to be careful not to rip foam from velcro backing

but i do like it and how it stands up to pressure, better then orange one

 

I'm pretty sure Phil guarantees that the foam will never rip from the velcro, these are some tough pads. I RIP mine off all the time and they are fine, just the same as day one.

 

i like yellow better then orange. seems that all details that i do need yellow pad. works great and leaves great finishe with 203. i starting not to like orange pads.
DSMS what pad size is in the picture? and is it gloss-it BP?
