How about just covering the vehicle with a thing plastic sheet? Some detailers use it when they finish up detailing for one day, only to continue the next morning and not wanting any dust on the paint. Seems like a cheap and effective way of protecting your vehicle without spending big bucks or causing any potential marring.

A quick search in Google and I found this: Plastic Car Covers Temporary Plastic Car Cover

I dont know, but I think that plastic sheeting will probably become static charged from rubbing across the surface, attracting all kinds of dirt onto the plastic inside and out.

If moisture becomes trapped between the plastic sheet and the paint surface it will cause the paint to haze. This is part of the reason car covers are made from 'breathable' fabrics
