I'll get you that as soon as I get home. It's just a $25 cordless I got at Lowe's about a year ago. Now to find somewhere local to buy that bulb. Also, I wouldn't use this for very long at a time, because I'm willing to bet that bulb builds up alot more heat than than plastic case is designed for.
Drew,, I have this Brinkmann gun. Its pretty good, but it will kill the 6 - AA batteries pretty quick if you leave the battery pack installed in the gun. You have to remove the battery pack from the gun after you use it, or count on the batteries being pretty dead next time you fire it up. I suppose you could put rechargeable AA batteries in it, but then you have to buy a charger for them and mind it, so you dont burn them up. I personally, have never had great success with rechargeable small batteries, but those that come in drills are pretty good since their charger is usually "smart" and knows when to shut down. So, will you be using this Brinkmann LED light all the time? Probably not, I dont use mine nearly as much as I use the twin bulb Halogen Brinkmann for portable light to see correction work. I think that this Skil drill converted to a similar 3M Sun gun is pretty darn hard to beat for the price... May just have to go get the parts and build one.. Dan F
A little off topic but when I read the title I was thinking the sun itself is a pretty cheap sun gun...but I know the limitations with that...no batteries needed but not always there when you need it.
Thanks Dan for that headsup. Then I will look at getting the twin haolgen bulb. I guess that I can pickup a 12v drill at harbor frieght and the bulb at home depot. I see that they have one similar that will work and it's LED.
Drew - The Brinkmann twin halogen light gun has an internal rechargeable battery and comes with an A/C adapter to plug it into the house current and a 12vDC cigarette lighter adapter, so you can plug it into your vehicle to recharge it as well. This is handy when you are on a mission and grab the light and remember you didnt have it charged on the workbench.. It is acceptable light, not blue at all like the Brinkmann LED AA battery killer, and its easy to use, store, etc.. Good luck with your plans ! Dan F
That you did Danny! :applause: I looked at the solux site, www.solux.net and you can order the specific bulb: 12v/ 4700k/ 10deg for $7.95 and in 35 and 50watt.
For those who are following through with this project, perhaps you can mimic another feature of the 3M sungun and somehow wire in a cooling fan to cool the bulb? Haha I picture a small computer fan at the back of the drill that is wired into the bulb connectors so that it turns on whenever the bulb is turned on. On the 3M sungun, it auto shuts off after 30 seconds of use and the fan continues running for a little while to cool the internals. Too bad amazon.ca isn't as cool as amazon.com We get shafted over here, none of those parts are available online. I have to source them all separately if I ever decide to do this. Lets see what you guys can come up with! Take it one step further by integrating a fan into the housing! I have this same light. It's a good swirl finder for the price. As Dan mentioned though, it eats through batteries really quick.
