Black Diamond stopped by my house this evening to pick up his Powerball that Dandrop sent us the other week and spent some time showing some tips and how to get started with a rotary. I have a Flex LK302VE that I picked up on the cheap a few months ago and recently got the Meguiar's W66 BP for it so I could use my existing 6.5" pads. We practiced on my '01 A6 with a white pad and 3M Ultrafina SE (also from Dandrop). The A6 was in pretty good shape for the most part already, so just wanted to get the hang of it. He's extremely knowledgeable with the rotary and detailing in general and I learned a lot of good stuff. We also got to BSing about a bunch of other stuff as well. Just wanted to say thanks again, and I really appreciated your help. Also, sorry the wife didn't come out to introduce herself, but she's feeling under the weather. She was worried you're going to think she's not nice.
Hey NP Jonny V. Happy to pass along whatever I can. Just takes a little practice like everything else. If ya need something, just give me a yell. Next time it's at my place. I have some of that New Belgium Brewery beer here from Ft. Collins and some of that good ole domestic beer to boot. Hope the other half gets to feeling better. Great family there. Hey guys you are very welcome! I wish i was there to learn the some tips with the rotary. Funny thing is, is also used my new Hitachi rotary for the very first time yesterday! I'm sure Black Diamond (BD) would have given great advice. Too bad i don't live in St. Louis anymore. hehehe. BTW Jon, i used the megs 105 + megs w5000 wool on an old BMW, let me tell you that stuff is a killer combo on severely swirled paint. I finished with Ultrafina on white pad. I like UF, very minimal hopping. The 106ff was jumpy that day. I'll try the rotary with just UF/white pad on the Audi A3 next week. Here is a before and after shot of the BMW i did yesterday: Man, the rotary is a time saver, we just need to be extra careful with it than with our flex. If there's anything you guys need from me, I'm just a holler away!
Wow, very nice, Dandrop!!! I have the M105, but might have to adventure into wool territory. Yeah, the Ultrafina that you sent me was a great polish to start off with on a rotary. Very smooth to work with, and thanks to Black Diamond's keen eye for showing me the difference it made on the finish. Might be giving some of my Menzerna finishing polishes a challenge especially since it didn't seem as finicky with weather. Again, outstanding work!!! Rotaries are fun.
So when's the StL meet?!?! You guys have more experience than I do so I'd love to just shoot the breeze...while having a few cold ones, of course.
That's wicked, you know what if the entire world detailed more and shared like you guys do the world would be a better place :applause: :applause: That and you would have vehicles looking incredable :thumb:
BD is a really cool guy. Now that the weather is starting to break we should get together and share some tips.
Sorry about all these posts. Bad day at work and too tired how to figure out how to do the multiple quote thing all in one post. Would Luv to get together for a large meet sometime with the STL people. Beer! Of course. Just remember that experience comes with practice so there's no better time than today to work on that experience. If you can use a PC, UDM or Flex, then you can use a rotary also.
