Actually I did something like this for Jerry at DG when trying out a beta sealant. I did half the hood with DG 501 followed by the Sealant, the other half of the hood got DG 501/601 bonding agent and the Sealant, half the roof got DG 601 bonding agent/sealant and the other half got just Sealant.

I got the best durablility out of the roof with DG 501/601/sealant. Next was the half of the half of the hood with 501/ and sealant. Granted there wasn't a great deal of degradation between any of the areas but using beading/sheeting as my "yardstick" you could tell the areas with 501 had better beading/sheeting after 5-6 months.

I asked a similar question in another form as I am planning to use AJT when I finish prep work on my Porsche. I just received this from Werkstat on why you would use Prime:

It is a good question. The planned prepwork on the Porsche is quite complete. With claying and 2-step polishing, you won't really require the prepping abilities of Prime to deal with any surface imperfections. However, we do typically still recommend applying Prime after any polishing stages.

    Here's the main reason why:

All abrasive polishes contain both solvents and lubricants to aid in the dispersal of the abrasives across the paint. Most of the solvent content evaporates off, but some heavier solvents and some oil-based lubricants can remain on the paint. It can feel dry and squeaky clean, but those residues are still on the surface. Any such residue can potentially interfere with how well the polymers in AJT bond with the paint. Maximum durability may be notched a bit lower. Prime contains cleaning components that remove those oily residues so the protective basecoat of polymers will be secure. AJT is purely protective and contains no surfactants or solvents that would address oil-based residues.

Beyond that, AJT can be easier to apply to a Prime'd surface than to bare paint. It is a minor point, but AJT would spread over the surface easier and be a bit easier to buff clear. Plus, you do get an additional base layer of protective polymers and UV components from using Prime first.

So, those are the reasons that we still recommend Prime before AJT, even with otherwise very thorough prepwork. It isn't saying that Prime is critical to success with AJT, but these are the main things to be aware of in making your choice about its necessity in your own detailing routine.
