oh i thought the benz's were put together here and just designed in europe nowadays. at least thats what i was told  which would make sense since its Chrysler who owns it.
Chrysler has never owned Mercedes Benz. It was the other way around. And MB sold Chrysler to Cerberus in 07.
Also known as Event Data Recorders, found in all GM vehicles for about 10 years now. You might know, has any civilian successfully used info from an EDR to win a case?
In Canada, they are still very new even for Law Enforcement to be using in cases. There are still many manufacturers that have a lock on the data being decoded from them. That will change in 2010 IIRC when NHTSA legislates the info to be accessible to everyone. EDR is GM-speak for them, and I don't know of any civilians who have even attempted to take one to court, let alone win. This is very new, unchartered territory for this technology to get tested in court. If there IS any case law, more than likely, it'll be in the US just because of the litiguous nature of that country.
I thought I had read about a case last year but I cant find any info on it now... I have noticed that people here in Canada seem less likely to threaten to sue right away...
Thanks to everyone for their useful info. what im wondering now is if she doesnt seek legal help and the lawyer takes the case and a lawsuit is made against benz, is there a good chance of there being a case without the EDR being used as evidence? from what has been posted it looks like very few people have doen this and theres not many people that can decode it
