I can't recall, I just remember reading something about this light and I could swear that it took both lights to make it the equivalent of the intensity of the 3M....but I could be out to lunch on this, dont quote me on this.

No worries, it's all good I'm just curious about this unit to be honest. Look forward to the comparision, to be honest tdekany it dosen't matter which is better, please don't feel as though I'm challenging you or anything like that. I'm just curious to see how this unit works that's all :hippie: I got my 3M Sun Gun and I'm pleased with it but there are lots of other products out there that could be better :thumb:

ok if you had to buy one tool, which would you buy, the 3m sun gun or a paint gauge?

oooh that's a tough one, specially now that I have both and have goten used to having both to work with. But I would have to go with paint gauge. I personaly feel that a paint gauge will tell you more about the vehicle, if it has been prevously polished, re-sprayed/painted.

Don't get me wrong the Sun Gun is a great tool, it will show you all the imprefections on the paint but once you know/see what your up against you need to do your best at the paint correction process to get that flawless finish and I feel it's important to know how much paint/clearcoat you have to play with...like Dave said though don't think the paint gauge is all mighty, gods gift to man kind...I think Dave sumerised it quite well treat it like a guide. Besides it's quite easy to get goofy readings too, paint gauges play a very important role but judgement is also important. I've had my gauges for a wile now and being able to graph the readings is just as important, as it will show me all the highs and lows and I use my best judgement...well that's just my opinion though.

interesting. I was thinking of getting a paint gauge for the purpose of knowing which panels have been resprayed, but the sun gun will also show the difference between factory and sprayed panels right? Decisions decisions.

Well sometimes you don't even need a light to tell you if a panel has been re-prayed/painted....I mean take a door for example, if you check the edges I'm talking at the very top bottom and side edges if you peal back the rubber a bit that's where most of the time you can tell if it has been re-sprayed/painted as for the Sun Gun helping you yes it can actually sometimes you can also see the amount of flakes from one panel to another....but not sure if that's exactly how you can tell if the panel has been re-sprayed/painted for all I know it could be just my eyes playing tricks on me again :shead: :shead:

idk when i see those ebay listings it says tell if a panel is resprayed. I know its ebay and dont believe everything, but i thought maybe the paint had a different color under high intensity light or soemthing.

That looks like an interesting light. I don't think having a cord is a big problem. I want it to check the panel before and after I polish it and have an extention cord out for the polisher anyways. So where the best place to buy that light and how much does it run???

It looks like this machine has 2 bulbs of the same wattage while the SUN GUN has 1.

I DO LOVE the SG though...... One complaint is that thermal shut down feature and get annoying....

a paint gauge..that will be a safety tool ..once you cut to much clear your done...do not forget..the UV inhibitors are in the top most of CC..so once you polish them away you take a chance of paint fade later down the road....I my self am not going after every micro scratch I see now on my truck...I will get it 98% now....being cautious is cheaper than a CC paint job...

I also am not sure what to get. I like the tag on the non SG but i like the mobility and being able to show customers what a defect is... but im not sure if thats worth the extra 150. I think it will all come down to which one is better. but im saving for a PTG first. I think theDFT is the one im looking for.
