3M Perfect it III backing Plate

Hey Danny,

I finally got that backing plate. The part number from 3M is 09627 for the U.S. 5/8"-11 threads. I like it even more than the yellow one. It's alot softer.
The only thing that sucks is that it's hard to find. If you're interested, the best bet is to check Ebay (Germany), they occasionally pop up.

 

Thanks man I am going to have to give that one a go soon if I can find it. Is it really soft or just a bit softer.

 

It's a bit softer, but trust me, when you start using it, the amount of pressure you need to apply to make this backing plate flex is FAR less than the amount of pressure you need to make the yellow one flex. It looks like a totally different foam type. It's hard to see in the pic, but even with just some of the weight of the buffer, the backing plate is flexing already.

If you are familiar with the Gloss-it backing plates, I have their 3" soft backing plate and the foam on this 3M BP in my opinion is much nicer quality and noticeably softer too(not to say that the GI is bad).

 

I have the small 3" Gloss-it backing plate for my Flex PE 14-2 and was using it this past week on my Mach 1's correction its good and I like how it conforms to panels easier than my 3M 5". In this case I will be getting back to you on it for sure thanks again man

 

Hey Danny, I was dealing with a member here for a Grey 3M BP. I think he want's $40 shipped or something. Let me ask him if he is still interested in selling it as soon as my email stops acting up.

I already have a GI one which is the same and thanks to your thread I recently picked up a 3M yellow one as well

I4detailing has the US thread 3M backing plates. I use M14, but they are worth the trouble of getting one.

 

the 3m backing plate is great tool. we carry the US spec ones. plenty in stock.
