Somebody has to pay for those expensive tiles he imported from Italy which help reflect the light so he can see the defects better! Not to mention that expensive scope that allows him to analyze defects not visible to the human eye.

seriously, dude...maybe that's why Dave was saying - ENOUGH... It starts with one detailer spends 60 hours on a detail, another one tries to "beat" him by having 120 hour detail, then the next one spent 250 hours on a detail. What's next??? 500 hour detail, or 1000 hour detail, and 10 steps of paint correction??? And paintwork taken to the next level, by being fed with bull's semen???:crasy:
I was saying ENOUGH with these threads. I don't care how long anybody spends on their details, if they are making money and not harming the cars than more power to them. I think the result of threads bringing up their costs and time factors are somewhat done out of spite or jealously. Anyone who has something to say to anyone of those mega detail guys I ask you one simple question "If you had the chance to be in their position, charging their price and working on those cars, would you" I love how people can look at a Ferrari that does 202mph and praise it saying its an amazing machine... than on the other hand look at a Twin Turbo Gallardo doing 250mph and say "How fast do you really need to go?" So what!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares!!!!!!!!!!! Let people do what they want with their money, its THEIR money! The limits will be pushed in every market and profession in the world, constantly. Theres $100 hamburgers, $250k watches and $100million dollar paintings. If theres a 250hr detail costing 10k, who gives a flying you know what. Hating on any of those guys charging high prices is just silly. Worry about your own detail working and your own businesses.
People tend to forget that an $11K detail is merely an OFFERING. That doesn't mean that this kid does $11K details all day long. Just like when you look at Paul Dalton's price sheet, some of his prices are actually quite reasonable for the average punter. If you want to go over the top, then that's always the option. BOOYAKASHA!
Why get down on someone for being able to charge top dollar for a hard days work. Do you guys watch professional sports, do you think that the athletes pay is aligned with catching/kicking/throwing a ball?? Come on, seems like envy if you ask me...
That's basically it right there. Some people just want to get from A to B in a Camry others want to do it in a Veyron. If some one wants perfection on a Mclaren(which probably has never seen a proper detail in it's life other then just a wash, wax, vac, and some tire dressing) and money is not an option.... $50/hr x 250hrs = $12500 sounds about right to me. To be honest even after 7hrs of polishing straight and my body starting to ache I feel like $50/hr is undercharging.
lol i will explain at this point im not a detailer by trade so no envy here, just laughter at the noobs who honestly believe the results from these mega expensive details are any better than your local 'skilled' pro detailer
Not saying that this statement is directed at me, but as a noob to this site I would like to defend my stance on the issue. David hit it right on the head with his posting. It's not a matter of the guy being any better than the next, it's just that he believes in his work and feels like he can charge whatever he wants. Obviously it works because the guy gets business. As I said before, it's great marketing. He charges what he wants, people pay it, and at the end of the day or detail he walks away with a nice paycheck. I'm sure that everyone who details for money would charge more if their market would pay it. I think it's great that he can be selective, charge what he feels is necessary, and still walk away with business. To each their own. I'm not here for trouble, I'm here because of the passion I have for detailing. I thought that was the purpose of forums, to share knowledge with people that share the same passion in life for the given subject. It amazes me that people blast this guy and don't even know him personally. I just hope for his sake that he is a good detailer, because we all know of those "hack jobs" out their that over charge and really don't have a clue. Richard
No jelousy at all, Dave, as I don't even detail for money...I do believe that paintwork can only look so good, and anything above 250 hours would be a wastage of time...there will be those that will disagree...
