Had the same situation, pretty close to the same pad and polish. Now, i'm not biased towards products, but the Megs pads cured my situation, FWIW....
The backing plate is held on by a hex screw. Didn't think it came with one, so now i have a spare. The foam pad that came with it is plenty soft...
Has anyone used these pads ? It looks like the pad on the backside is recessed in so the backing plate is like sitting in the pad.
