I use GI Gloss Finish
This is typically the way to go about it. Check out the wax thickness tests, and it pretty much proves its the best way to go about it.
EVP is a bit more than just mineral oil and is probably your best bet.

Painted under the clear. I only use blackhole on chrome, it really brings a lot to any polished finish. I even use it on the other halves rings.
