I got mine from Lowes, I think its a Greenworks. I got the cheapest one. Works great, they have a more expensive one (still under $200).

Wool pads are notorious for shedding. Even after many uses the wool pads I use still shed a ton. Now I only use a wool pad as a last resort.

Unless you have used it, how can you say its just snob appeal? Can you get similar results with other products, yes.
If you looking at CR, price isn't generally any concern.
If you buy CR from Europe and have it shipped here it "only" comes to something like $850
I don't think it matters which way you do it. I always use warm water to wash, better for removing the dirt.
They will come off with polish, or other abrasive method. They won't come off with most chemicals, like IPA, etc.
I use GTechniq C1. Paint coatings are the way of the future, unless you have a show car, where I think a true carnuba wax might be a better option.
It depends on how much contamination there is. I used almost all of the 32oz on one white car that was really bad.
